One thing most people forget when they plan their Camino: the training isn’t about distance 🥾👀

Almost everyone can walk 20 km. What breaks people is walking 20 km again the next day, and the day after that, with a backpack on🎒

So if you’re heading out next spring, this is the right month to start👇🏻

1️⃣ Two walks a week, one of them long, in the boots and socks you’ll actually bring.

2️⃣ Add the backpack in December and gradually increase the weight.

3️⃣ It’s also worth adding a little strength training for your legs and ankles.

4️⃣ And don’t just train for one long walk. Try doing two longer walks on consecutive days now and then. That’s much closer to what your body will experience on the Camino 👏🏻

5️⃣ Blisters almost always come from shoes nobody broke in, not from being unfit. Good shoes, the right socks and plenty of practice with both will take you a long way.

How many of you are heading out to walk the Camino in October? 🥾🍂

We often get asked what the Camino is really like at this time of year. And there’s one thing in particular that people don’t expect.

The light 🌅

In summer, many people get up at five in the morning to set off before the heat kicks in. You don’t need to do that in October. The sun doesn’t rise until between eight and nine in Galicia, so you can have breakfast, enjoy a proper cup of coffee, and still set off in the best light of the day ☕️☀️

And because the sun stays low in the sky throughout the day at this time of year, that beautiful light stays with you. The long shadows across the Meseta in the middle of the day. The vineyards in Bierzo lighting up as the harvest is underway. That’s why almost all of our autumn photos look the way they do — without any editing or filters 👌🏻

Did you know there is a Camino where you walk out of one country and into another? 👀🥾

You start in Porto, cross a border on foot, and arrive in Santiago two weeks later. Vineyards open up around you, a Roman bridge appears at the bottom of the next hill, and by lunchtime you are sitting in an old market town square with a plate of something you cannot pronounce 🍇☀️🥘 The w**e shifts from Vinho Verde to Albariño somewhere around the Minho, the seafood never lets up, and because this is the flattest of the main routes you can walk every bit of it without months of training first.

Do you know the Camino’s special rituals? 🐚

If you’ve walked the Camino, you’ve probably also experienced some of the rituals, customs and traditions that make the journey so special 💫

Maybe you’ve left a stone at Cruz de Ferro, experienced the Botafumeiro in the cathedral in Santiago, hugged the statue of Saint James, walked a stage in silence, or left a little note, stone or symbol along the route? 🪨

Hi, it’s me, Judit. I came on here to say hi 👋🏼💚

By the time you arrive at your first hotel, ready to start your Camino, there’s already been quite a bit of work behind the scenes to make sure everything is ready for your trip 🗺️

And that’s where I come in 🙋🏻‍♀️ Behind every Camino is a team making sure all the pieces fall into place – so you can simply enjoy the journey 💚

I work with reservations, invoicing and coordination from our office in León, helping to make sure that hotels, transfers and all the practical details of your trip are in place.
