☕🥖 Churros & You – Benalmádena Pueblo

Last week we continued our wander through Benalmádena Pueblo. This week, it’s time for something considerably more edible… 😋

If you fancy churros while you’re exploring the Pueblo, Churros & You is the place to go — in fact, it’s the only dedicated churros café in Benalmádena Pueblo.

This is a proper neighbourhood café, popular with locals for freshly made churros — crisp and golden outside, soft inside — accompanied, if you’re doing things properly, by a cup of thick Spanish hot chocolate for dipping. ❤️

You can keep things traditional or venture into considerably more dangerous territory with filled churros, including Nutella and dulce de leche.

💡 Sarah’s tip: Do as the locals do and have your churros for breakfast with a café con leche or later in the day for la merienda — the afternoon snack that keeps you going until Spain’s rather late dinner time.

🌿 Exploring Benalmádena Pueblo – Plaza de Andalucía
Our little wander through Benalmádena Pueblo continues…

Last time we stopped on Calle Real for lunch at La Cepa. Today, we’re carrying on through the village to Plaza de Andalucía. 🇪🇸

This pretty little square sits right in the historic heart of the Pueblo, surrounded by the whitewashed buildings, tiled streets and flower-filled balconies that give Benalmádena Pueblo so much of its character.

It’s not somewhere you need to rush through. Stop for a few minutes, find a shady spot and simply enjoy the atmosphere. One of the things I love most about exploring the Pueblo is that some of its nicest moments aren’t really attractions at all — they’re the little squares, streets and corners you discover along the way. ❤️

From Calle Real, Plaza de Andalucía is the next stop before we continue deeper into the old village towards some of its best-known sights and viewpoints.

And, naturally, next week we’ll be finding somewhere good to eat nearby. 🍽️😉

🍷 Eating Our Way Around Benalmádena Pueblo – La Cepa

Last week, our Discover Benalmádena Pueblo series took us along Calle Real, one of the lovely whitewashed streets running through the historic centre.

And I promised we’d come back to one of my favourite places to stop along the way… La Cepa. ❤️

Right on Calle Real, La Cepa is a small, relaxed Spanish restaurant where tables spill out onto the street and you can settle in over lunch while village life carries on around you.

The menu is Spanish and Mediterranean, with plenty of dishes that are perfect for sharing. Look out for oxtail and black-rice croquettes, cod fritters, patatas bravas, carrillada cooked with Pedro Ximénez, presa ibérica, calamari and flamenquín filled with Serrano ham and cheese.

For me, though, much of La Cepa’s appeal is its simplicity.

If you’re following our self-guided walking tour of Benalmádena Pueblo, you don’t need to plan your whole day around eating here.

Reach Calle Real, find yourself feeling peckish and simply grab a table outside. Order a few tapas, stay for a leisurely lunch or just enjoy a cold drink while watching the world go by.

And perhaps leave room for dessert — the torrija gets some particularly enthusiastic mentions! 😋

🏘️ Exploring Benalmádena Pueblo – Calle Real
Our wander through beautiful Benalmádena Pueblo continues…

Last time we explored the picture-perfect whitewashed houses and flower-filled balconies of Calle Marbella. Today, turn left at the top and join me on Calle Real, one of the oldest and most important streets in the Pueblo.

For centuries, Calle Real has been one of the main routes through the village, linking its squares with the church and upper historic quarter. Today, it’s still very much part of everyday Pueblo life.

Whitewashed buildings and wrought-iron balconies line the street, but this isn’t somewhere to hurry through.

Look a little closer and you’ll find independent boutiques, gift shops, cafés and small businesses tucked between the traditional Andalusian buildings. Decorative ceramic signs, pretty balconies and glimpses down tiny side streets provide plenty of excuses to stop for another photograph.

And that’s one of the things I love most about Benalmádena Pueblo.
The famous sights are beautiful, but sometimes it’s simply wandering the streets and noticing the little details that makes a visit so memorable.

🍽️ Somewhere Special in Benalmádena Pueblo – Restaurante La Mar Chica

If our wander along Calle Marbella tempted you to explore Benalmádena Pueblo, here’s another very good reason to return… ❤️

Hidden away at the lower end of the street, Restaurante La Mar Chica is a tiny fine-dining restaurant with just 22 places and eight tables.

Opened in 2019 by Dutch-Danish husband-and-wife team Dennis and Kikki Van Tintelen, it feels more like being invited into an elegant private home than visiting a traditional restaurant.

Chef Dennis draws on experience in Michelin-starred kitchens to create constantly changing tasting menus combining New Nordic, Spanish and Asian influences, using seasonal ingredients from the local coastline, countryside and mountains.

There’s no traditional à la carte menu. Instead, choose between four, five, six or seven courses, with beautifully presented dishes appearing one after another at a wonderfully unhurried pace.

🍷 You can add carefully selected Spanish w**e pairings too — and I particularly like their clever driver’s w**e pairing, with smaller measures for whoever has drawn the short straw and has to drive home!

If I were choosing somewhere in Benalmádena Pueblo for a birthday, anniversary or simply a we’re on holiday and we deserve it evening, this would be my first choice.

It isn’t inexpensive by traditional Spanish standards, but for this level of cooking and personal service, I think it offers exceptional value.

🌸 Discover Benalmádena Pueblo – Calle Marbella
If you love the traditional white villages of Andalucía, put Calle Marbella on your list when you visit Benalmádena Pueblo.

This beautiful little street is everything you hope to find in a pueblo blanco — whitewashed houses, wrought-iron balconies, traditional wooden doors and colourful flower pots carefully tended by the people who live here.

It’s one of those streets where the best thing to do is simply slow down and look around. Look out for the hand-painted ceramic house numbers, tiny gardens and all the individual touches that make every home a little different.

Despite being one of the Pueblo’s most photogenic streets, it still feels very much like a residential neighbourhood rather than somewhere created for tourists — and I think that’s part of its charm.
