☀️ 12 Things to Do in Fuengirola – No.9 🌴
A Stroll Along the Paseo Marítimo Rey de España

As part of our series sharing 12 of our favourite things to do in Fuengirola, No.9 is something almost everyone ends up doing — and for good reason — a stroll along the Paseo Marítimo Rey de España.

This iconic promenade stretches for around 8 kilometres, making it one of the longest beachfront walks in Spain. It runs from just in front of Marisquería Los Marinos José all the way to Castillo Sohail, following the entire coastline of Fuengirola.

The paseo is flat, wide and beautifully maintained, lined with palm trees, beaches, cafés, chiringuitos and uninterrupted Mediterranean views.

By day it’s relaxed and gentle, perfect for wandering, jogging or cycling. In the evenings it comes to life as locals and visitors head out for their paseo, stopping for drinks, ice creams or a meal by the sea.

One of the nicest ways to enjoy it is to simply follow the coast from east to west. Starting near Carvajal, the promenade feels quieter and more open, gradually becoming livelier as you reach Los Boliches and central Fuengirola.

The marina makes a natural pause point, with plenty of places to sit and watch the boats and if you feel like continuing, the walk towards Castillo Sohail is especially lovely at sunset 🌅

Along the way you’ll pass a chain of very different beaches, benches and shaded sections, making it easy to walk as far — or as little — as you feel like.

From Casa Christabel y Casa Annabel, the promenade is easy to reach and can be enjoyed in short sections or as a longer wander, depending on your mood.

12 Things to Do in Fuengirola – No.8
Visit Fuengirola’s Markets 🛍️

As part of our series sharing 12 of our favourite things to do in Fuengirola, No.8 is all about one of the most popular local experiences — a visit to the markets.

Fuengirola is home to one of the biggest and best-known markets on the Costa del Sol, held every Tuesday morning from 9am to 2pm at the Recinto Ferial. This lively market is a favourite with both locals and visitors and offers a huge variety of stalls selling fresh produce, spices, clothing, household items and traditional Spanish bargains.

If vintage and curiosities are more your thing, the Saturday flea market is not to be missed. It’s one of the most extensive flea markets on the coast, with stalls selling everything from vinyl records, books and ornaments to flamenco dresses and the occasional unexpected treasure. Even if you’re not planning to buy, browsing the stalls is all part of the fun.

Both markets generally run from around 9am to 2pm and are mostly uncovered, so it’s worth bringing a hat and sunscreen, especially in warmer months. You’ll often see vendors weaving through the crowds selling cold drinks and fresh fruit from wheelbarrows — a very local touch — and there are plenty of cafés nearby if you need a break.

From Casa Christabel y Casa Annabel, the markets are easy to reach without a car. You can take the train from Carvajal and get off at Los Boliches or Fuengirola, followed by a 10–15 minute walk to the fairground. The M-120 bus also stops close by, or a taxi or Uber costs around €7. Driving is possible, but parking nearby can be limited.

Have you visited Fuengirola’s markets before, or do you have any photos to share? Feel free to pop them in the comments.

12 Things to Do in Fuengirola – No.7
Exploring Fuengirola’s Old Town 🌿

As part of our series sharing 12 of our favourite things to do in Fuengirola, No.7 takes you away from the seafront and into the heart of the town — Fuengirola’s Old Town.

Fuengirola’s Old Town is a compact, lively historic centre made up of plazas, pedestrian streets and everyday Spanish life. It isn’t a picture-perfect medieval quarter, but it’s full of atmosphere and local character, and well worth exploring for its food, cafés and relaxed pace.

At the centre of the Old Town is Plaza de la Constitución, a beautiful square surrounded by tapas bars and cafés. The Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario sits at its heart, alongside the much-photographed Monumento a la Familia. It’s a lovely place to stop for a coffee and watch the world go by.

The plaza is also the town’s social hub and hosts events throughout the year. At Christmas it becomes a festive market and a focal point for the Three Kings celebrations. Easter brings Semana Santa services, and New Year’s Eve is marked with local celebrations. One of the highlights of the year is the A Caballo equestrian event in September, when the square fills with horses, carriages, music and family activities.

From Plaza de la Constitución, a network of narrow pedestrian streets spreads out in all directions. Streets such as Calle España and Calle Marbella are ideal for a relaxed wander, with small shops, ice-cream parlours and traditional tapas bars. For food, Calle Moncayo — often called “Fish Alley” — is a popular choice, with a high concentration of bars and restaurants offering good-value menus.

One of the nicest things about Fuengirola’s Old Town is how easy it is to explore. Everything is close together, it’s flat and walkable, and the beach and marina are only a few minutes away, making it a perfect contrast to the modern promenade.

From Casa Christabel y Casa Annabel, more energetic guests can walk into town in just over an hour, or you can take the train and enjoy a short five-minute walk from the station.

Have you already explored Fuengirola’s Old Town, or do you have a favourite square or tapas spot to recommend?

12 Things to Do in Fuengirola – No.6
Where to Eat Along the Fuengirola Seafront 🍽️
As part of our series sharing 12 of our favourite things to do in Fuengirola, No.6 is all about one of the biggest pleasures of a stay here — eating well by the sea.
One of the things guests love most about staying at Casa Christabel y Casa Annabel is how easy it is to explore the Fuengirola seafront on foot. Within a comfortable 20-minute walk, you’ll find a fantastic range of places to eat, from relaxed chiringuitos on the sand to one of the most respected seafood restaurants on the Costa del Sol.
Along the Paseo Marítimo Rey de España, you can enjoy classic beachside dining at Restaurante Salvador El Lotero, Los Marinos Paco and Restaurante Los Andaluces. These are perfect spots for espetos, fresh fish and long, unhurried lunches with the sea just a few steps away.
For something a little more special, Marisquería Los Marinos José sits right at the start of the promenade and is widely regarded as one of the finest seafood restaurants in southern Spain. Ideal for a memorable lunch or dinner if you enjoy top-quality fish and seafood.
If you’re after something more casual, Bora Bora is a great all-day option for coffee, cocktails, light meals and relaxed people-watching right on the promenade.
And for guests fancying something different, Happy Flavours, an Indian and Italian restaurant on the seafront, also offers 10% off for our VIP Club guests.
No car needed, no planning required — just a seaside walk and plenty of excellent places to choose from, all with the Mediterranean as your backdrop.

Bike Hire in Fuengirola 🚲
After sharing our post about exploring Fuengirola by bike, we’ve had a few people ask about where to hire bikes locally, so here are two companies we regularly recommend to guests staying at Casa Christabel y Casa Annabel.

Terral Bike Rental
Based at Fuengirola Marina, Terral offer a wide range of bikes including road, gravel, mountain and electric bikes. They also provide helmets and cycling apparel, route information and guided suggestions, and can even deliver bikes to you. Whether you want a gentle ride along the promenade or a more adventurous route into the hills, they’re very knowledgeable and easy to deal with.

Opening hours:
Monday to Friday 8:30–17:00
Saturday 8:30–13:30

Phoenix Rental
Phoenix Rental are ideal if you’re looking for something flexible and easy. They hire electric and standard bicycles, as well as scooters and mopeds, by the hour. They also offer a really interesting self-guided tourist route around Fuengirola, complete with maps, pictures and an audio guide explaining the history and sights along the way. Their electric bikes make getting around almost effortless.
Open daily from 10:00–21:00.

Both companies are well located, friendly and used to helping visitors who want to explore Fuengirola without a car.

🚴‍♀️ A little extra for our guests
Guests who book direct with Casa Christabel y Casa Annabel automatically become members of our VIP Club, which includes small discounts on bike hire with our selected local partners, along with a range of other experiences around the area. We’ll share more about that separately, as we’ve had quite a few questions recently.

If you enjoy exploring at your own pace, cycling is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to see Fuengirola and the surrounding coastline and beautiful countryside.
