Today we enjoyed the 4th Tropical Route 🥑of the project dedicated to showcasing local products in Vélez-Málaga.

A wonderful and diverse group joined us — Spanish, Belgian, German and Canadian participants, most of them living in the area — all curious to discover the story behind our subtropical crops, their impact on the local economy and their value as a sustainable tourism experience.

From learning about the cultivation of tropical fruits to tasting seasonal produce, it was a fantastic day connecting people, land and flavours😎.

In total, 11 routes will be offered to different audiences, bringing more people closer to the tropical agriculture that shapes the landscape and identity of our region.

Project promoted by the Tourism Department of Vélez-Málaga City Council and funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Today we celebrate International Tourist Guide Day.

Tourist guides are hosts of the destination.
We connect visitors with the real identity of each place.
We know the destination, respect it, and explain it with accuracy.
We understand that a place is not just a setting, but people, history, work, and memory.

That is why I am celebrating with this photo, which is very special to me. In it, I am sharing a pasero (a traditional raisin-drying area) with Ana, a young farmer from Almáchar. She is living heritage of our land and an example of what we truly share when we do our job.

To obtain the official Tourist Guide license from the Regional Government of Andalusia, specific training is required, as well as three languages: your native language and two more at C1 and B2 levels.
Behind every guided tour there are years of study, continuous training, and a strong commitment to quality and professionalism.

Today I would also like to invite you to think about the model of so-called “free tours.”
Guide associations reject this model because of the practices that often come with it: lack of price transparency, misleading advertising, undeclared work, and unfair competition. It is often a precarious system where the company behind it makes the real profit.

A qualified profession cannot depend on tips, or on a system that rewards quantity instead of quality.
Can you imagine any other profession working this way? A mechanic, a doctor, a hairdresser, or an electrician working for tips?

When you travel, think about it.

Today I had the pleasure of guiding a private boutique tour through Nerja and Frigiliana, sharing their fascinating history, from ancient roots and Moorish heritage to the stories that shaped these white villages into what they are today.

Slow pace, good conversations, hidden corners… and because every great experience deserves a great ending, we wrapped it up with a tasting of local products, a glass in hand and views that truly say it all.

This is what I love about my job: turning places into stories, moments and memories.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic railway accident that occurred yesterday.

We send our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and our support to everyone injured. Our thoughts are with all those affected.

Given the impact of these events, the travel disruptions and the general mood, Plan A Málaga has decided to cancel its attendance at FITUR in Madrid.

Yesterday we enjoyed the last tour of the year: a private experience to Nerja, the Caves and Frigiliana — a must if you are visiting the area ✨

During the tour we discovered that our guest was a true seafood lover 🐟, so we slightly adjusted the original plan. We organized a delicious lunch at a traditional chiringuito 🌊 and made a special stop at La Caleta de Vélez, the most important fishing port in Málaga province. There, we had the chance to talk with local fishermen repairing their nets and to watch a boat unloading the catch of the day 🚤🪝

These small details make all the difference when you truly want to experience life like a local — and that’s our specialty ❤️

Yesterday I was interviewed on Mundo Empresarial on 🎥.
I got to talk about Plan A Málaga and how, through this project, I fell in love all over again with La Axarquía 💚 — how we started, what makes us different, how the company has evolved over time, and my current role as President of the Tourist Guides Association Asociación de Guías Profesionales AGP Málaga Cultural ,now proudly over 100 guides strong.

We also talked about sustainable and responsible tourism, and why it truly matters.
