The Wine Battle of Haro is one of the most unique and unforgettable festivals in the country.

Thousands of people dressed in white, wine flying everywhere, and an atmosphere unlike anything you've experienced before.

But with Planeta Pueblo, it's not just about the battle.

It's about spending four immersive days experiencing Spanish wine country from the inside.
Sharing meals, discovering local traditions, visiting wineries, and becoming part of village life alongside the people who actually live it.

All guided by us, Eduardo and Estela — local farmers, winery owners at Bodegas Lecea, and founders of Planeta Pueblo.

Because the best part isn't getting covered in wine.

It's the people you share it with.

🇬🇧 Although many people know San Isidro as the patron saint of Madrid, he is also the patron saint of farmers.

And for people who live from the land, like we do here in La Rioja, this celebration means a lot.

The night before, the whole village gathers around a huge bonfire. Children bring wood and old vine branches, play around the fire, and the charanga fills the streets with music. 🔥

Then on May 15th, wineries and local cooperatives open their doors to share wine, food and celebrate together what it means to belong to this land.

Because in small villages, the land is not just work.
It’s identity, community and tradition.

🇪🇸 Aunque mucha gente conoce a San Isidro como el patrón de Madrid, también es el patrón de los agricultores.

Y para la gente que vive de la tierra, como nosotros en La Rioja, esta es una festividad muy importante.

La noche anterior, todo el pueblo se reúne alrededor de una gran hoguera. Los niños llevan madera y cepas, juegan alrededor del fuego y la charanga llena las calles de música. 🔥

Y el día 15, bodegas y cooperativas abren sus puertas para compartir vino, comida y celebrar juntos lo que significa ser de aquí.

Porque en los pueblos, la tierra no es solo trabajo.
También es identidad, comunidad y tradición.

No cultural associations, no village.

Cultural associations keep creative life alive.
They create activity.
They build real community.

The choir is one of them.
A space where people come together,
take part,
and feel part of something shared.

Because in places like this,
it’s not just about what happens,
but about the people who make it happen.
The involvement.
The sense of belonging.
The way identities are built together.

And that, even if it’s not always visible,
is what truly sustains the village.

The pilgrimage of Davalillo

Twice a year, the whole village sets off.
One Virgin is taken up to the castle of Davalillo,
the other is brought back.

Seven kilometers walking through vineyards,
surrounded by dancers, music and tradition.

But it’s not just about the journey.

It’s about the whole village walking together,
repeating something that has happened for generations.

A moment where everyone belongs.

You don’t need another trip.
You need to meet my mum.

It sounds like a joke.
But it’s not.

When people join us — from the US, the UK, Australia and beyond — what they remember most isn’t a monument.
It’s sitting at our table.
It’s how local people welcome you.
Lunch with our family.
Laughter with our friends.

And becoming part of what we call here "la cuadrilla" — the group you share life with.

Over and over, we hear the same thing:
“The best part wasn’t the sightseeing.
It was the people.”

That’s when Spain stops being something you visit…
And starts being something you feel.

That’s Planeta Pueblo.
Not tours.
Not checklists.
Real connection.
Real community.
Real local life.

So no — you don’t just need another trip.
You need to feel at home in a place that wasn’t yours yesterday.

And sometimes… that starts by meeting my mum ( Don't worry, she only slaps me) 😁
