Compulsory V16 Beacon

Hi everyone

As we are now receiving requests for quotes for Summer 2026 we thought it would be a good time to let everyone know of the changes in Spain regarding the "new" compulsory V16 beacon.

From January 1, 2026, the V16 beacon is mandatory in Spain for signalling vehicle breakdowns, replacing traditional warning triangles.

If you breakdown, then in all of our hire cars, in the glove compartment, there will be an authorized DGT (UK equivalent DVLA) - approved beacon.

Step-by-Step Usage Guide

Stop Safely: Pull over, turn on hazard lights, and keep your seatbelt on.
Activate Inside: Turn on the V16 device (button or twist) while inside the vehicle.
Place on Roof: Open the window slightly and place the magnetic base on the roof. Ensure it is on a metal surface, not plastic.
Visibility: The device will flash 360-degree orange light, visible up to 1 km.
Automatic Connectivity: The device automatically connects to the DGT 3.0 platform to send your location to help alleviate traffic problems.
Do Not Exit: You are not required to step out of the car, which reduces accident risks.

However the V16 Beacon DOES NOT CALL FOR HELP FOR YOU - you will still need to contact Diamond to arrange for a breakdown truck or for someone to come and help!!

So IMPORTANT..... if you are planning or indeed already booked your flights to visit sunny Spain and require transfers and car hire then please contact us as soon as possible so we can send you a quote and get you booked in.

Remember that you do not need to have the hire car for the full duration of your visit. We know that a hire car is not used every day so if you require return transfers and car hire for a minimum of 3 days during your visit just let us know and we can send you an all inclusive quote for your consideration.

We do not enjoy having to inform people that we have no availability so once a flight is booked then please remember to contact Diamond!

You will be met in person at the airport and be driven directly to your accommodation where the hire car will be waiting or we will have pre-arranged delivery for you at a later date. Therefore no queuing and no waiting, no driving on unfamiliar roads – we will do it for you.

No need to hire a big car for luggage as we take the strain for you!
On your departure day we will collect you from the accommodation and drive back to the airport, as close to departures as we can get with no stress or worry.
