Not many people know that the remains of Cartagena’s Roman Theater got buried, disappearing from sight -and from the local memory- around the 6th century A.D.; that was precisely the time when the city became known as CARTHAGO SPARTARIA, mainly on account of the massive amounts of Sparto Grass that could be found in the area. That w**d was actually the ancient plastic, as bags and ropes for boats, for instance, were made from that material, and people from all around the Mediterranean used to collect it here. In fact, that city’s name was given by byzantines, who came all the way from nowadays Istanbul for supplies. This hardy plant can be widely spotted in many places, but Calblanque (pics below, right side of the track) is by far the best.
