Last weekend, we took ourselves off to Frigiliana for a wander. This beautiful white village never disappoints, with its immaculate streets, pretty corners and picture-postcard views. It’s also a lovely stop-off between Málaga Airport and Almond Hill House!

This time, we had the added pleasure of exploring the 10th Ruta del Arte, with 22 locations showcasing a wonderful mix of artists, styles and techniques, including some corners of the village we’d never discovered before.

A few of our favourites along the way:

🎨 KLAUS HINKEL – beautiful watercolours capturing the landscapes and everyday life of Andalusia.

🎨 ANNE BARBARA LENZIN – imaginative ceramics and mosaics with a playful, mystical feel.

🎨 CATHERINE CUMBERBATCH – expressive abstract work full of colour, texture and layers. We bought an original for our own home. It just felt completely right, and we knew immediately where it would go!

🎨 EMMA PETITT – colourful, characterful and vibrant paintings inspired by animals, people and nature. We couldn’t resist a small print for our plant patio. Another piece that immediately found its place!

We also lost ourselves in ALMAGRA, admiring its beautiful collection of antique and contemporary ceramics, art and furniture.

And no visit is complete without lunch at PURA CEPA, with its fabulous coastal views and local wines and gins, followed by artisan ice cream from HELADERÍA ARTESANAL VIRTUDES.

Art, exploring, good food and two new treasures for home. What’s not to love?

When Mum and I came to Spain with a one-way ticket on September 29th 2023, we had no idea what the next few years would look like. We just knew we were ready for a big change and a new adventure.

Now we’re heading into year four, Mum will be 80 next year WOW!!, and Almond Hill House feels more established quicker than we ever imagined.

And then there’s Dipsie, the very poorly stray cat who adopted us along the way. She’s now settled, safe and very much part of our story too. ❤️

It’s been our most successful year yet, with wonderful holiday guests, returning retreat facilitators, new collaborations and some lovely five-star reviews. We’re incredibly grateful.

✨ Alongside our much-loved yoga retreats, we’ve welcomed writing + yoga, solely creative and women-only retreats, with more new experiences taking shape for 2027.

✨ The 2027 calendar is naturally filling with a lovely mix of regular guests, returning retreats and new enquiries. It’s incredibly reassuring to feel Almond Hill House finding its own rhythm.

🎨 And Mum’s winter art classes? They didn’t quite happen this year, but they’re firmly back on the list to arrange for this winter!

Our next challenge? Balance. Three years in, we’d also like to explore more of Spain, enjoy our stunning surroundings and find some “me” time away from work.

A huge heartfelt thank you to friends and family who have supported us, visited, messaged and cheered us on along the way. ❤️

And something we didn’t know back then on that first day … this very weekend, Órgiva, the mountain town we now call home, celebrates with four days of fiesta. It feels rather lovely that she’s celebrating alongside us too. 💃

So… year four, let’s see what you’ve got. 🥂🇪🇸

We feel so lucky when families choose Almond Hill House for their time together — reunions, long lunches, pool days, plenty of laughter and those little memories that stay with you long after the holiday is over.

Almond Hill House is an absolute gem. We stayed there to celebrate a family 40th birthday, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect setting. Becky and Kay were the most wonderful hosts - warm, welcoming and incredibly attentive. They had thought of everything, and their communication both before our arrival and throughout our stay was second to none.

The cortijo itself is immaculately presented, with beautifully designed rooms, stunning gardens and a gorgeous pool. The surrounding area is wonderfully unspoilt and peaceful. You can do everything or nothing there, and that is the beauty of the place.

We have only just left but we are already trying to think of an excuse to return! We couldn’t recommend Almond Hill House, Becky and Kay highly enough. Huge thank you to you both - we hope to visit again!
