The night of San Juan is one of the most popular festivities in Mallorca. Between the 20th and 24th of June the end of spring and the beginning of summer is celebrated; the night of the solstice is from the 23rd to the 24th: the shortest night of the year. It is also the saint of St. John the Baptist, who predicted the arrival of Jesus, although today the religious aspect is kept in the shadows.
In many places on the island it is celebrated with music and dancing, there are barbecues on the beach with all the family and friends and also some fireworks. Beaches are lit with torches and people sit around bonfires. According to tradition and beliefs, one should take a swim in the sea at midnight as it preserves good health.
One of the wildest celebrations takes place in the Parc de la Mar de Palma and Playa de Palma. During the day, various attractions and activities are offered: drumming courses, "correfocs" with devils, folkloric dances, show cooking and much more. This festival attracts thousands of visitors every year.
