🚐🌿 From Market to Mountains: A Day in Bayonne by Camper

Some journeys don’t rush. They gather.

We woke up by the river in Bayonne, where the morning light moves slowly across the old stone bridges and cathedral towers. The city was just starting to open its eyes.

A short walk took us into Les Halles de Bayonne — a place where daily life feels like tradition still matters. Stalls filled with local cheese, fresh bread, peppers, and cured Jambon de Bayonne. Nothing staged. Just rhythm, craft, and conversation.

We didn’t “shop.” We gathered.

Paper bags full, we walked back through the old streets — past half-timbered houses, river reflections, and quiet corners of Basque history. The city moved around us like it always has.

Outside town, the camper became something more than transport. Doors open, table out, food laid down — the market turned into a meal.

Bread torn by hand. Cheese shared without plates. Tomatoes still warm from the sun. Simple food, eaten slowly, with no schedule except daylight.

This is what travel looks like when it’s allowed to breathe.

No itinerary to chase. No noise. Just Bayonne → market → table → road.

And then, gently, we drove on.
