🔥 The Devil of Timanfaya – a Legend Born of Fire and Grief 🔥

Do you know where the legend of the Devil of Timanfaya comes from?
It is one of the darkest and most powerful stories of Lanzarote.

In September 1730, during a wedding celebration near Timanfaya, the ground suddenly split open. A volcano erupted without warning. Rocks fell from the sky, lava poured through the valley, and one massive stone crushed the bride.

Her husband, driven by despair, tried to save her. He grabbed a five-pronged forge and attempted to move the rock. When he realized she was gone, he lifted her body and, according to legend, ran straight into the burning volcanic valley.

Witnesses saw his silhouette against the flames, holding the forge high above his head. Someone whispered only one sentence:
“Poor devil.”

From that night on, people believed his spirit never left the lava fields. Not as an evil demon, but as the embodiment of grief, loss, and the uncontrollable power of the volcanoes. The legend became a symbol of the great eruptions of 1730–1736 and of the raw force that still defines Timanfaya today.

When the ground burns beneath your feet and steam rises from the rocks, locals say:
the Devil is still there.

🌋 Lanzarote does not forget.
It remembers through fire.
