We've been defending the wolf in a march in Madrid today, along with colleagues from Ecologistas en Acción Salamanca and other groups from all over Spain. Despite high temperature warnings we had clouds and even light showers on the march: Nature was definitely on our side!

Days 4, 5 6 and 7 of our Honeyguide Wildlife Holidays tour South of Salamanca have flown by, with visits to the Sierra de Francia, the city of Salamanca, Campo de Alba steppelands, the Sangusin valley, Quilamas Sierra and today the villages of Puente del Congosto and Neila de San Miguel just over the border in Avila. We've seen Great bustard, Montagu's harrier, Calandra and Short-toed larks, Black and Griffon vulture, Short-toed eagle, Melodious and Western Bonelli's warblers, Nightingale, Hoopoe, Cuckoo and Bee-eater, and much much more. Although it's been unseasonably cool for butterflies we've seen Iberian Sooty copper, Moroccan orange tip, Painted lady, Glanville, and Queen of Spain fritillaries amongst many others.

Days 2 and 3 of our South of Salamanca Honeyguide Wildlife Holidays and we've almost managed to dodge the rain. We've had close encounters with Spanish sparrow, Booted eagle and Griffon vulture, seen Turtle dove, Golden oriole and Blackeared wheatear, and explored areas around the reservoir, the eastern part of the reserve, slatey landscapes and the Sierra de Francia. Orchids, interesting linarias and the very lovely Kerry lily Simethis mattiazzii.

Day five and last day of our tour with Bob and Betty. We managed to avoid the rain most of the time and find some lovely flowers to the sound of singing Nightingales, Golden orioles and Bee-eaters.
Thanks to La Cueva del Lobo for letting us eat our picnic in their covered terrace, and the Casa del Parque at La Alberca for letting us in when it poured with rain!
Thanks also to both the hotels for their accommodation, hospitality and collaboration: Rural La Trocha de Hoyorredondo and Posada Miranda.
And many thanks to Bob and Betty for once again entrusting us with this, our longest tour with them. 😊

Day 4 of our tour with Bob and Betty in the Sierra de Francia, watching Red-rumped swallow collecting mud, Black vulture gliding down the valley, discovering Kerry lilies, watching a spider devouring a bee in a Gum cistus, and wandering through the mix of Atlantic and Mediterranean woodlands filled with a huge variety of flora. We avoided the rain and picnicked under the sheltering porch of a twelfth century hermitage.
Tomorrow is our last day but hopefully not the least!
