No.8 on our list of suggestions for your bucket list when you return to Tenerife:Take a trip to the North of the island to swim in one of Tenerife’s natural pools. The crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean is always a pleasure but the experience turns into something unforgettable when you swim in one of these natural pools, all of which are full of charm and are strikingly beautiful. The natural pools are enclosed spaces due to their natural formation, where the sea water seeps without any human intervention, (apart from adding steps, walkways and diving points). This is why they are a must for all visitors who can enjoy a refreshing dip in these natural spas with their special healing qualities.
i) Charco del Viento - Swim with views of Teide
If your idea of a great day out is admiring lava formations bathed by the seawater and creating natural pools, you’ll find four of them in Charco del Viento, the most popular swimming area in La Guancha and one of the best known and easiest to access in north Tenerife. Even though the force of the sea enters at times, the beauty and contrasting natural colours of this area allow safe bathing in different parts, with some sandy areas and rocky parts ideal for sun-bathing. Getting to this particular spot is relatively easy. Take the road which brings you to the borough of Icod de los Vinos, and follow a tarmac path to the pools, which are signposted and passing through banana plantations. There is a large parking area and steps down to what is a natural treasure multiplied by four, with magnificent views of Teide behind you.
ii) El Caletón de Garachico - aswimming spot for all the family in one of Tenerife’s charming towns
The Atlantic has arms that soothe and the area of El Caletón the north of Tenerife more than proves it. Just beside the San Miguel 16th Century Castle and with the imposing presence of the famous rock, a symbol of the Garachico eruption of 1706 when this was the most important port in Tenerife; this area of pure lava offers the perfect combination of open sea and calm large rock pools for the whole family, just metres away from all the services you need for a lovely day out. Swimming in El Caletón isn't just about recharging your batteries in the salt water; it also offers you the chance to see a part of one of the most beautiful historic centres of the Canary Islands, with the spectacular La Culata cliffs and views along the rest of the northern coastline. There are lifeguards during the summer, a restaurant on the lava itself, parking facilities, a public swimming pool next door, a beach nearby, the new port and numerous fabulous places to visit, where you can eat or shop. Everything you could ask for in one delightful spot.

The intense blue of the Atlantic Ocean is turned into a subtle colour palette in the main bathing area of San Juan de la Rambla, in the north of Tenerife. La Laja rock pool can be seen from the lookout point of the same name and cries out to be photographed from a variety of angles, enticing you to walk down the steps as quickly as possible to submerge yourself in the calm, crystal waters, protected from the rough sea by the volcanic rocks that surround it. A natural spa with historical wealth and restaurants nearby. Located right in the heart of the historic quarter of one of Tenerife’s most attractive villages, which is also blessed with the best climate in the area, this jewel in the Canarian crown makes a surprise appearance at the end of one of the busiest streets in the village. With excellent access, a sun bathing area and three bars and restaurants close by to recharge your batteries, a dip in the La Laja pool lets you delight in the partnership of the lava and the Atlantic Ocean, which have created an unforgettable natural spa.
