A 66-year-old holidaymaker had to be rescued by helicopter after falling while hiking in Las Cañadas del Teide on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were alerted at around 3:20pm after the man suffered an injury on a trail inside Teide National Park.

Red Cross rescue teams reached him first and provided initial assistance, before a GES helicopter was sent in due to the difficult mountain terrain. 🚁

The man was airlifted to safety, treated by SUC medical staff, and then taken by ambulance to Hospital del Norte with a moderate lower limb injury.

Authorities are reminding hikers to wear proper footwear, carry enough water, and take extra care on Tenerife’s volcanic trails, especially with heat and changing weather conditions.

Santa Cruz is trying to clear more abandoned vehicles from its streets, with 1,120 cases opened since 2025. 🚗

According to the city council, 807 procedures were started last year and another 313 have already been opened in 2026, as police work to identify owners and encourage them to remove the vehicles voluntarily.

So far this year, only 15 vehicles have been removed after their owners were located, which shows how slow the process can be.

The council says the legal steps are complicated, as owners usually need to be notified before a vehicle can be taken away, unless it creates a danger, blocks traffic, damages public property, or breaks specific parking rules.

For now, Santa Cruz says a dedicated Local Police team will keep tracking suspected abandoned vehicles and contacting owners to free up public space. 👮‍♂️

Abusive passengers could soon find it much harder to simply switch airlines after being banned.

A new UK government proposal would allow airlines to share data on disruptive travellers, creating a possible national blacklist for people involved in serious onboard abuse, threats, or dangerous behaviour. ✈️

At the moment, someone banned by one airline can often book with another, because carriers do not have a simple shared system for this.

The plan is not active yet, and there are still questions around data protection and how it would work in practice. But if approved, repeat offenders could eventually be blocked across multiple airlines, not just one.

For crew and passengers who deal with abuse, delays, diversions, and ruined journeys, this could be a big shift.

La Laguna has opened registrations for its summer programme for residents over 50, with 500 free places available for activities in Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo ☀️

The initiative runs from 6 July to 28 August and includes outdoor activities focused on wellbeing, movement, community and enjoying the coast.

One of the best parts: free guagua transport will be provided from different neighbourhoods across the municipality, making it easier for residents to join without extra cost.

To apply, participants must be registered in La Laguna and aged 50 or over. Registration is open online from 16 June at 9:00am until 24 June at 11:59pm.

Places are limited, so anyone interested should move quickly. 🚌🌊

⚠️ Emergency declared at Las Gaviotas Beach

Santa Cruz has approved urgent works after rockfalls forced the closure of the access road to Las Gaviotas.

The council will invest €1.9 million to stabilise the cliff, inspect unstable areas, review existing safety nets and use drone monitoring across the affected zone.

The works are expected to begin within a month and could last around 12 months, meaning access to the beach will remain heavily restricted for safety reasons.

Drivers and beachgoers are being urged to respect the closure and avoid the area until the cliff is secured. 🌊⚠️

Four new phylloxera cases have been detected in Tenerife after the second round of surveys across the Canary Islands 🍇

Officials say the positives were found between April and May on abandoned estates inside the already monitored “ground zero” area of Tacoronte-Acentejo.

So far, 9,610 checks have been carried out, with Tenerife still the only island where the pest has been found. This year, 1,831 surveys detected just four new positives, while last year’s 89 cases have already been treated and removed.

The Canary Government says the situation remains contained and that control measures are working. With no cases outside the demarcated area, officials are now looking at easing some phytosanitary restrictions ahead of the next grape harvest.

The pest is still not fully eradicated, but authorities say the islands are now in the eradication phase, which could make the Canaries the first European region to eliminate phylloxera if the process succeeds. 🌿

More than 20 non-emergency ambulances were left out of service in Tenerife after vandalism hit the TSNU transport base in Los Realejos. 🚑

The disruption forced health teams to reorganise routes, prioritise vital treatments such as haemodialysis, and cancel or delay several non-vital patient transfers.

According to the report, dozens of rehabilitation and medical transport appointments were affected across the north and metropolitan areas, with extra vehicles sent from Santa Cruz to cover urgent demand.

The case centres on an alleged attack during Carnival Saturday in 2024, after the woman reportedly made clear she did not want to have s*x. Friends also testified in court, saying they noticed something was wrong shortly after the incident.

The prosecution is also asking for compensation and supervised release, while the defence denies the accusation and is calling for an acquittal.

Spain’s gambling rules can feel confusing, especially for tourists and foreign residents in Tenerife 🎰

The good news? If you’re visiting for a short holiday and placing the occasional casual bet, you’re unlikely to run into serious trouble. Spain’s enforcement is mainly focused on operators, not tourists using an app from their hotel room.

But for residents, the situation is different.

Anyone living in Spain, especially those registered on the padrón, should be using platforms licensed by the DGOJ, Spain’s official gambling regulator. A betting site might be legal in the UK, Ireland, Gibraltar or Malta, but that does not automatically mean it is legal to operate in Spain.

This is why some familiar platforms may block bonuses, restrict promotions or behave differently when they detect a Spanish IP address. It’s not a glitch. It’s compliance.

Spain also has stricter advertising rules than many visitors expect, including limits on prime-time gambling ads, celebrity endorsements and aggressive welcome bonuses.

For long-term residents, the safest move is simple: check whether your platform has a Spanish DGOJ licence before using it. Licensed platforms also offer stronger responsible gambling tools, including deposit limits, reality checks and national self-exclusion options.

For tourists, keep it casual. For residents, don’t assume your old account is still the right one. 🇪🇸

Puerto de la Cruz is getting a new way to explore the city 🚌☀️

A new open-top tourist bus will begin operating from Monday, June 15, offering a 60-minute panoramic route through seven key landmarks across the municipality.

The route will connect some of Puerto’s best-known spots, including Lago Martiánez, the Botanical Garden, Loro Parque and Playa Jardín, with an audio guide available in eight languages.

To celebrate the launch, Tenerife residents will be able to ride for free from June 15 to 30, with daily departures at 15:00 and 16:00, subject to capacity.

Tickets can be collected at stop number 1, on Avenida Betancourt y Molina, next to Lago Martiánez.

A new tourist experience for visitors, and a fresh way for locals to rediscover Puerto de la Cruz. 🌴✨
