►The Plaza de España is an architectural complex located in the María Luisa park in the city of Seville (Spain). It was designed by the architect Aníbal González. It was built between 1914 and 1929 as one of the main constructions of the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. It is the largest building of all those that were erected in the city during the 20th century.

►This square has large dimensions (170 meters in diameter) and a semi-elliptical shape, which symbolizes the embrace of Spain to its former American territories, and looks towards the Guadalquivir River, as the way forward to America.

►The Cathedral of Santa María de la Sede is located in Seville (Andalusia, Spain). It is in the Gothic style. It is the largest cathedral in the world in this style and was declared by Unesco in 1987, together with the Real Alcázar and the Archivo de Indias, as a World Heritage Site and, on July 25, 2010, an Asset of Outstanding Universal Value.

► According to tradition, construction began in 1401, although there is no documentary evidence of the beginning of the work until 1433. The building was carried out on the site that remained after the demolition of the old Aljama mosque in Seville, whose minaret (the Giralda) and patio (patio de los Naranjos) are still preserved.

►The Torre del Oro (Arabic: بُرْج الذَّهَب burj ad̲h̲-d̲h̲ahab) is a dodecagonal military watchtower in Seville, southern Spain. It was erected by the Almohad Caliphate in order to control access to Seville via the Guadalquivir river.

►Constructed in the first third of the 13th century, the tower served as a prison during the Middle Ages. Its name comes from the golden shine it projected on the river, due to its building materials (a mixture of mortar, lime and pressed hay).

►The tower is divided into three levels, the first level, dodecagonal, was built in 1220 by order of the Almohad governor of Seville, Abù l-Ulà; As for the second level, of only 8 meters, also dodecagonal, was built by Peter of Castile in the fourteenth century, a hypothesis that has been confirmed by archaeological studies; The third and uppermost being circular in shape was added after the previous third level, Almohad, was damaged by the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. Rebuilding of the third level was made by Brusselian military engineer Sebastian Van der Borcht in 1760.

From pre-Roman times it was known as Baetis or Betis, and was called by the Arabs Wad al-Kibir from the 11th century.

► La Giralda is the bell tower of the Cathedral. In its day it was the tallest tower in the world with its 97.5 m high, in addition to being one of the most famous images of the city and all of Andalusia. The tower is made up of two different but perfectly united bodies, showing a perfect example of the melting pot of cultures existing in the city.

► The lower part of the tower corresponds to the minaret of the old mosque of the city, from the end of the 12th century, in the Almohad period, while the upper part is a superimposed construction in the 16th century, in Christian times, to house the bells . At its top is the bronze statue that represents the Triumph of Faith and that has the function of a weather vane, the Giraldillo.

► The cathedral, including the Giralda, was declared a National Monument on December 29, 1928. In 1987 the Alcázar complex, the Archivo de Indias and the cathedral, with its tower, were considered World Heritage Sites.

► The Real Alcázar of Seville is a walled palace complex built in different historical stages. The original palace was built in the High Middle Ages. Some vestiges of Islamic art are preserved and, from the period after the Castilian conquest, a Mudejar palace space and another in the Gothic style. In later reforms, Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque elements were added.

► Today it is the residence of the members of the Spanish royal family when they visit Seville. This makes it the oldest royal palace in use in Europe. Unesco declared it a World Heritage Site, together with the Seville Cathedral and the Archivo de Indias, in 1987.
