No pressure… but humans used to do that. 👀
And they were doing it centuries ago.
The Royal Alcázar of Seville isn’t the work of just one period or one culture. Its story has been written over more than a thousand years — from its 10th-century Islamic origins, through Gothic additions and centuries of transformation, to the extraordinary 14th-century Mudéjar Palace built for King Pedro I and the Renaissance changes that came later.
Look closely and you’ll find intricate plasterwork — much of it originally covered in colour — elaborate glazed tilework arranged in geometric patterns, sophisticated wooden ceilings, Arabic inscriptions and courtyards where water, gardens and geometry become part of the architecture.
And many of those details are more than decoration.
The inscriptions speak of faith and royal power. Heraldic symbols tell you who transformed the palace. Changes in architecture reveal different periods, rulers and cultures — sometimes several centuries of history in the same courtyard.
That’s the part you can easily miss when you simply walk through.
