Where can you see wild monkeys in Morocco? In the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, the mountain home of the Barbary macaque. Here a mother carries her baby across the road, taking her time. Which Portuguese town is completely surrounded by castle walls? Óbidos. You can walk the full ring of medieval ramparts around a village of whitewashed houses, red roofs and a hilltop castle. A king once gave the whole town to his queen as a wedding gift. We can weave Óbidos into a tailor made Portugal trip 😬🥰

Why is Ronda famous? For the bridge you can just see behind us, the Puente Nuevo, which spans a gorge plunging 100 metres to the river below. This lovely group joined us on a private day trip from Seville to see it. Small group, one guide, the white villages on the way home 🌉

Why is there a cloud on top of the Rock of Gibraltar? It has a name: the Levanter. When the easterly Levante wind hits the Rock, the air is forced upward, cools, and condenses into a cloud that pours over the summit like a banner and vanishes on the other side. Locals barely look up. We could not stop watching 😍🌄

Why is Fátima famous? In 1917 three shepherd children reported visions of the Virgin Mary here, and Fátima became one of the largest Catholic pilgrimage sites on earth. On the big feast days the square fills with hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, as you see here before the great basilica. We can include Fátima on a tailor made Portugal trip.

Are there Roman ruins in Morocco? Yes, and they are magnificent. Volubilis was the empire's southwestern frontier, a city of oil presses and mosaics below the Atlas foothills. Two thousand years on, you can sit almost alone among its arches with the whole plain at your feet. Volubilis lies inland, so we reach it on a tailor made trip, beyond our Seville to Tangier day.

Is Gibraltar an island? It looks like one from the sea, but no. The Rock is joined to Spain by a low sandy strip, a peninsula guarding the entrance to the Mediterranean. From the water you see why sailors have used it as a landmark for thousands of years. And from this photo you can see Morocco clearly in the background 😍
