Spring in the region of the Penedès signals more than a seasonal shift; it marks the strategic restart of the vine’s annual cycle.
In March, vineyards awaken from winter dormancy as rising temperatures and spring rainfall activate the flow of sap. Buds formed the previous year begin to swell and burst, revealing the first green shoots. This early stage, known as budbreak, sets the foundation for the entire vintage.
By April and May, leaf growth accelerates. These first leaves are not just visual markers of growth; they are the engine of the vine, driving photosynthesis and shaping the balance of sugars and acids that will ultimately define the wine’s character.
Yet, this phase is as critical as it is fragile. Young shoots remain highly vulnerable to frost, making timing, observation, and vineyard management essential for safeguarding yield and quality.
A new cycle begins, full of potential, precision, and promise.
