This weekend celébrate with us the Day of the Canary Islands 🇮🇨.
Canary Islands Day is celebrated every year on May 30th because on that date in 1983, the first session of the Canary Islands Parliament was held following the approval of the Statute of Autonomy. This marked the beginning of the Canary Islands’ self-government within Spain.

The date therefore commemorates the establishment of the Canary Islands’ autonomous institutions and symbolizes the archipelago’s unique identity, history, and culture. Beyond its political significance, Canary Islands Day has become a celebration of Canarian traditions and cultural heritage. It is an opportunity to highlight emblematic aspects of island life, such as the timple (a traditional Canarian string instrument), traditional costumes, local gastronomy, the Silbo Gomero whistled language, Canarian wrestling, and the rich history of the islands.

As a curious fact, although May 30th is the official holiday, many events and festivities begin several days earlier and continue throughout the week across the eight inhabited islands of the archipelago

During this day, numerous events and celebrations take place across all the islands, including:

* Traditional Canarian wrestling exhibitions.
* Traditional games and sports.
* Folk music and dance performances.
* Craft fairs and artisan markets.
* Tastings of local cuisine.
