The Dunes Beach House (sleeps 4) is located in the Bungalows Playa Famara community on the north west coast of Lanzarote,about 30 minutes drive from Arrecife airport. Nestled beneath majestic cliffs and just a minute's walk from the rolling dunes of world famous Playa de Famara, there couldn't be a more perfect place for a beach and surf getaway. The 2 bed, 2 bath bungalow was built by a Norwegian

architect in the 1970s, designed in a unique crescent shape with stone walled garden to have total privacy, shelter from the wind and to blend well into the protected natural surroundings. Bungalows Playa Famara has a reception that is open all year round, a convenience store, Energize massage therapy rooms and restaurant. Playa de Famara is renowned within the global surfing community and is regulary listed among the top surfing beaches in the world. Surfers and kite surfers abound and, although it is not recommended for swimming, the beach offers spectacular scenery, awe-inspiring views of the Chinijo Archipelago and Los Riscos de Famara (cliffs), beautiful walks (it’s 6km long) and endless beachcombing, paddling, sand castle building and sunset watching opportunities (we have young kids!). It's a wind in your hair, sand in your ears kind of place with a natural beauty that will take your breath away. A 5 minute drive along the beach is the small fishing village of Caleta de Famara where you will find a quaint harbour, cafés, restaurants, minimarket, surf shops and a children’s play and skate park. A 10 minute, uphill drive out of Famara will bring you to the cultural market town of Teguise where there is a popular Sunday morning market (Mercadillo). A shopping hub for arts and crafts, fashion, souvenirs and local delicacies, the town also has many cafes, restaurants and museums - including the spectacular Castillo de Santa Barbara - to visit. We had to wait a while for our food but when it came, it was so delicious! Yummy pizza and pasta in Caleta de Famara. The wait allowed us to take in the local vibe and the convivial atmosphere ... so it was worth it really 😉.

Day trip to Graciosa (via ferry from Orzola): to see a beautifully wild, unspoilt and protected island. Apart from the port area, Caleta del Sebo was so quiet, quaint and charming. We went on a Jeep ‘safari tour’ (there are also bikes to hire) to see Playa de las Conchas, Los Arcos de Los Caletones (natural sea archway), Playa Lambra and the summertime hamlet of Pedro Barba, then relaxed on Playa La Francesa before returning to the mainland. WARNING ⚠️: The first part of the ferry trip over was terrifying!!! The rough water and swell made for a very difficult exit from the harbour at Orzola and the first half of the 30 minute journey was a white-knuckle ride! So much so that we will never do it again!!

An inspiring visit to César Manrique’s house in Haría followed by a beautiful loop walk through the fields along Barranco de Elvira Sanchez, circling the base of Montana de Aganada and stopping for a rest at Mirador del Rincon to admire the glorious view back towards Famara.

A walk back through time at the oldest and biggest country farm of Lanzarote c. 1840. Includes wine, goat’s cheese, mojo and cactus jam tasting.

A real education and worth the visit especially given the beautiful surroundings.
