How to Travel from Alicante to Torrevieja by Bus.

Alicante Airport has a dedicated bus stop for long-distance buses, including those going to Torrevieja. It’s located outside the Arrivals Terminal, just a short walk from the exit doors.
You will see signs for the Torrevieja bus or buses heading to Orihuela and surrounding towns.

The bus will drop you off at the Torrevieja Bus Station (Estación de Autobuses de Torrevieja), located in the town centre.

A single ticket for the bus from Alicante Airport to Torrevieja generally costs around €7-€9 per person, depending on the bus company and the time of year.

The Tarjeta Bus 🚌 in Torrevieja (Avanza) is a bus travel card that allows you to use the local public transport system at a reduced fare. It's especially useful if you're planning to use buses frequently in the area, as it saves you from buying a ticket each time.

Here’s a breakdown of what the Tarjeta Bus (Avanza) is and how it works:
-You can get the Tarjeta Bus Avanza at the Torrevieja Bus Station, as well as at some local retailers (like kiosks and to***co shops).

It costs €2 for the physical card plus you need to add credit into your new card.
When you use the card, you get a reduced price for your journey compared to buying a standard ticket.

The Laguna Rosa in Torrevieja, located in the Parque Natural de las Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja, is one of Spain’s most fascinating natural sights. Its vivid pink hue and high salt content make it a truly unique destination on the Costa Blanca.

The lake's distinctive color is primarily due to the presence of Dunaliella salina, a type of algae that produces a red pigment called beta-carotene in high-salinity environments. Additionally, Halobacterium bacteria thrive in the salty waters, contributing to the pinkish hue. These microorganisms create a unique ecosystem, supporting species like Artemia salina (brine shrimp), which feed on the algae and, in turn, provide food for flamingos. The flamingos' diet gives them their characteristic pink feathers .

When’s the Best Time to Visit?
Summer (June to September) is the best time if you want to see the lake at its brightest and most vibrant.

For a quieter experience, try going early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The light’s perfect for photos, and the crowds tend to be smaller.

Wildlife and Flamingos!!

If you’re into birdwatching, you’re in for a treat! The lake is home to loads of flamingos, especially during their breeding season (March to May). There are also other birds like terns and stilts, and the lake's ecosystem is just incredible to see in person.

How to get to Pink Lake?

Are you in the mood for a little choo-choo adventure? 🚂😄

A cute little tourist train that offers guided tours around the Torrevieja Salt Lakes, including the Pink Lake (Laguna Rosa)!
This mini trolley train is a fantastic way to explore the area without having to walk too much, especially if you're keen on seeing the salt flats, wildlife, and of course, the iconic pink waters, all while sitting back and relaxing.

Torrevieja ❗️❗️

The name "Torrevieja" comes from two Spanish words: Torre (tower) and Vieja (old). Located on the Mediterranean Sea, it is 50 km from Alicante and about a 30-40 minute drive from the airports in Alicante and Murcia. This is a place where everyone who visits falls in love, regardless of their country of origin. The picturesque town’s coastline is lined with fishing boats and hundreds of yachts, motorboats, and private vessels, creating not only breathtaking views but also a fantastic atmosphere. Torrevieja is one of the largest yacht ports in the Mediterranean, with space for around 1,500 boats.

The city is home to a salt lagoon, from which salt is still extracted today. Due to the salt resources, Torrevieja enjoys a unique microclimate, which has been recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the healthiest places in the world.

The climate in this region boasts over 320 sunny days a year. The winter is mild, with temperatures rarely dropping below 15°C (59°F) and minimal rainfall, while the summer offers a pleasant warmth, not sweltering heat, thanks to the sea breeze and warm ocean currents. This unique climate is why many foreigners have decided to invest in property in the area, giving the city an international feel. On every street, you can hear languages from around the world, and find boutiques, shops, and restaurants that resemble those of Warsaw, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Moscow, or London.

Torrevieja is not just a city – it’s a way of life. Joy, smiles, and a positive attitude are visible on every face you encounter. This is largely due to the previously mentioned microclimate, the countless kilometers of beaches, the lively streets, and the warm, sunny atmosphere. Living here feels like an eternal vacation. Torrevieja is alive 24 hours a day, with plenty of clubs, bars, and pubs that thrive at night. For those who prefer a more tranquil lifestyle, Torrevieja offers miles of winding promenades along the beaches, perfect for leisurely strolls.

Speaking of the beaches, which are naturally one of the biggest attractions, they could be described for hours. The fine white sands, children’s play areas, football fields, tennis courts, showers, bars, and restaurants make them perfect for relaxation. The calm, warm, and crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean are ideal for swimming and water sports, including water skiing, diving, and windsurfing. The town has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for its clean and well-organized beaches.

Whether you're seeking a vibrant, lively atmosphere or a quieter escape by the sea, Torrevieja offers a little something for everyone, making it an unforgettable destination.

CARTAGENA❗️❗️

The province of Murcia has an abundance of attractions, but among all the cities in this amazing region, Cartagena stands out. This city has played one of the most important roles in the history of Spain. It is well known that before the Romans arrived, prehistoric tribes lived here, engaging in craftsmanship and active trade. This ancient city has preserved many historical and architectural landmarks. The atmosphere of Cartagena will undoubtedly leave an unforgettable mark on the soul of every visitor. The military leader Hasdrubal is considered the ancestor of the city, as the first mention of the city of Qarth Hadasht on the southeastern coast dates back to 227 BC. The city was later conquered by the Romans, who named it New Carthage. The ruins of the Roman Theater (Museo del Teatro Romano) have survived to this day and are an interesting place to visit, both for adults and children. The enormous hall could once accommodate about 6,000 spectators! It witnessed the reign of the Byzantines, Moors, and medieval kings. Time and people did not spare the theater, and over time it disappeared completely under the earth. The amphitheater was discovered by archaeologists quite by accident during excavations at the site of a Christian temple. It turned out that the cathedral was built on top of the Roman theater. Today, these ruins hold great cultural and historical value and are rightfully considered the main attraction of Cartagena. The city also features other Roman-era archaeological finds, such as the Casa de la Fortuna (House of Fortune) and the ruins of a Roman house (Casa del Atrio, 1st century BC), where you can see ancient mosaics and frescoes. At the nearby port, the Underwater Archaeology Museum (ARQUA Museo de Arqueología Subacuática) showcases real Phoenician ships. They are being restored and exhibited to the public.

In 1865, a lighthouse was built at Cape Palos. The location was not chosen by chance: it was here that fierce naval battles with pirates took place. Memories of the Spanish Civil War are still alive in Cartagena. The Civil War Shelter Museum (Museo-Refugio de la Guerra Civil) is where, during the 1930s, 5,000 people hid from bombings. A trip to Cartagena is incomplete if you don't admire the panorama of the city and sea from the Castle Hill. This park offers mesmerizing landscapes from a height of 45 meters. You can reach it via a panoramic elevator located along Calle Gisbert. Cartagena and its bay can also be seen from a small watchtower, Castillo de la Concepción.

The city has always been well-protected due to its rich deposits of various minerals. Even today, mining remains a thriving industry, with many silver mines operating. The city has always been well defended, and rulers built walls and set up artillery batteries on the hills surrounding the bay. Some of these structures still stand today. Cartagena is a bright, seaside city full of gardens, with almost all of its main attractions within walking distance. In the historic center, you'll find the Palacio Consistorial (Town Hall), the modernist buildings of el Casino and el Gran Hotel. By the way, the Palacio Consistorial houses a tourist center where you can get all the necessary information about Cartagena's landmarks, opening hours of major institutions, and more. Recently, the tourism sector has been rapidly developing, and the authorities are making efforts to ensure that the city is as accessible and comfortable as possible for visitors.

Thus, the Cartagena Puerto de Culturas pass offers the opportunity to visit 4-6 city attractions at a discounted price.
