In a day with a big storm in the morning, I hosted a tour in Viana do Castelo in the morning and Braga in the afternoon. To avoid the rain and to show an idea of the culture, first we saw the Museu dos Trajes (traditional costumes museum) and then the Church of Misericórdia and the Cathedral.

In Braga we had a tour on 2 locations that were still unknown to the lady on tour: Chapel of Imaculate Conception and the Biscainhos Museum.

We went from the 19th/20th century costumes to a 18th century church, to a medieval church recently converted into cathedral, to a chapel from 1940 and restored in 2015 and finishing in a Baroque palace. Quite the experience!

📷1-4: Museu dos Trajes. Love the jewels!
📷5: Church of Misericórdia
📷6-10: Chapel of the Imaculate Conception. One of my favourite places in Braga! So peaceful!

This last month I’ve worked with a group in Braga and Guimarães, with a break in between for a workshop where they could paint a typical Barcelos rooster. With a local artist, Rosália Abreu, they gave way to their imagination. Before arriving, I had told them the legend behind the rooster, so they learnt about Saint James way and its relationship with the city.

Last pic is a typical rooster so you can have an idea.

If you have taken a tour with me in Braga, you know I mention the Bracari and the Romans a lot. It’s about the origins of the city of Bracara Augusta, known today as Braga.

To remember and celebrate the origins of Braga, every year in May we have Braga Romana, one of best times of the year to visit Braga. (You should also see Braga in Holy Week, Saint John, Christmas and on the graduates parade)

Save this video for your next trip to the North of Portugal!

Inside the program of Braga Romana there was a guided tour with an archaeologist through several remains we have in Braga from before and after the arrival of the Romans. I always like to take the opportunity whenever possible of attending because I can always learn something new.

If you’ve never visited these ruins, they have these names in Portuguese:

🏛️Balneário Pré-Romano da Estação (Iron Age bath) - it’s inside the train station

🏛️Forum - Largo Paulo Orósio, with ruins in the library

🏛️Domus das Carvalheiras

🏛️I didn’t have the time to stay at the end, but the last place visited was Fonte do Ídolo (fountain made by the Bracari with Roman additions

Besides these ruins you can see:

🏛️One Roman gate at the aTípica restaurant

🏛️The museum Domus da Escola Velha da Sé

🏛️Sections of the Roman wall at the Cathedral Museum + Burgos Hotel

Safe this info for your next trip to the North of Portugal!

Last month I had a tour in Pinhão and I went there through the National roads. My hometown is close by the Douro Valley but via the National roads you have more scenic views than via the highway.

First 3 pictures is a sightseeing spot in the shape of a boat in Mesão Frio, already in the Douro Valley area. (The name is Miradouro do Imaginário). You can even use it for the Titanic scene.

The other pictures are the area around Amarante, the small villages inside mountains that look like Nativity scenes.

Minho and Trás-os-Montes. Visit the North of Portugal!

Just some cistus flowers I saw at in the Douro Valley. I like to see them because it’s like a piece of home. My hometown, Fafe, was known in the past for having a cistus flowers valley (vale de estevas - bal d’estevo).

It’s just like when I go to the Peneda-Gerês National Park and I see the garrano horses. They also remind me of home!

A good example I saw at the .porto.hotel

Female hygiene products available at the toilet. Perfect for those emergencies that happen to us, and sometimes we don’t have extra products on our purse.

Very recently went back to Aveiro to work. It has been a while since I came to this lovely city. I love its canals, moliceiros, mercanteis (the 2 types of boats), colours and sweets.

This time I had a walking tour with a coffee break where a lady was surprised by the size of the suspiros (looks like a giant merengue) and I went back to the cathedral and I mentioned before there was a very realistic Christ, but one think was speaking of it, another was seeing the sculpture! People get always so amazed!

If you are considering coming to Portugal, Aveiro is one of those places you should not miss!
