The Danakil Depression is one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth. It is located mainly in northeastern Ethiopia, in the Afar Region, near the borders with Eritrea and Djibouti.
•🌋 Volcanic activity: It has active volcanoes, including Erta Ale.
•🧂 Salt flats: The area contains large salt deposits and colorful mineral formations.
•🌡️ Extreme heat: Temperatures can be extremely high throughout the year.
•🌍 Geological importance: It lies where tectonic plates are pulling apart, causing the land to sink and creating volcanic activity.
•🐪 Human life: The Afar people have traditionally lived in this harsh environment and are known for salt mining and camel caravans.

Bull Jumping Ceremony — Omo Valley, Ethiopia
The Bull Jumping Ceremony is a traditional rite of passage practiced by the Hamar (Hamer) people of Ethiopia's Lower Omo Valley. It marks a young man's transition from boyhood to adulthood. During the ceremony, the young man must successfully run or jump across the backs of a line of cattle, demonstrating courage, strength, and readiness for adult responsibilities. Success traditionally allows him to marry and gain greater social status within the community. The event is also accompanied by dancing, singing, and other family and community rituals.

The Mursi (also called Mun) are an ethnic group living in the Lower Omo Valley of south Ethiopia, mainly in the area between the Omo and Mago Rivers. Their traditional way of life combines cattle herding with agriculture, and cattle are very important to their food, social relationships, and cultural identity.
They are especially famous internationally for the lip plates (dhebinya) worn by some Mursi women. The practice traditionally begins around puberty, with the lower lip gradually stretched using wooden or clay inserts. The lip plate is connected to cultural identity, beauty, and social maturity, although not every woman necessarily wears one.
The Mursi also have a rich oral tradition, body painting, music, and ceremonial practices, including traditional stick fighting known as sagine. Their culture is closely tied to the land, the Omo River, agriculture, and cattle.
