The Simien Mountains are my home. And right now, their heart is breaking. ⛰️🦌

Growing up as a native of the Simien Mountains National Park, these rugged peaks and deep valleys aren't just a beautiful landscape to me they are my identity. Today, as the founder of Ethiopian High Land Tours, my entire life and livelihood are tied to this wilderness. The park is the true backbone of our tourism and a massive source of pride for everyone here.

But we have a quiet crisis happening right in front of us.

The majestic Walia Ibex, a creature that lives nowhere else on Earth except right here in our mountains, is fighting for its survival. Between poaching, habitat loss, and growing human pressures, this iconic animal is being pushed to the brink.

Losing the Walia isn't just about losing a beautiful animal. If they disappear, our entire ecosystem collapses. It means a devastating blow to Ethiopian tourism and, worst of all, the complete destruction of the livelihoods of our local communities who depend on visitors to survive. If the Walia goes, a piece of our soul goes with it.

The cry to "Save the Walia!" can't just be a trendy hashtag. It needs to be a real, boots-on-the-ground commitment.

At Ethiopian High Land Tours , we believe tourism should protect the wild, not exploit it. Real change happens when we the locals who live here, the tourism professionals, and the travelers who visit stand hand-in-hand to protect this fragile paradise.
