Karo - The Omo Valley
The Karo people of Ethiopia's Omo Valley are renowned for their stunning body art, cultural traditions, and unique way of life along the banks of the Omo River. As one of the smallest tribes in the region, with a population of just around 2,000, the Karo have preserved their identity through elaborate body painting using natural pigments and intricate scarification practices that reflect beauty, bravery, and social standing.

The Suri -Omo Valley
The Suri (Surma) of Ethiopia’s Omo Valley are known for lip plates, ritual stick fighting (Donga), and bold body art. Cattle are central to their way of life. Despite modern pressures, they preserve their rich warrior traditions and identity.

Ethiopian Orthodox Church Mass
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church Mass, or Qidase, is a sacred ritual rich in chant, incense, and ancient Ge’ez liturgy. Centered on Holy Communion, it reflects deep spiritual devotion and centuries-old tradition.

Ethiopia offers an array of remarkable travel destinations

My name is Claire Molyneux. The Danakil Depression in Ethiopia is like landing on Mars. This place is crazy hot, bone-dry, and sits over 400 feet below sea level in the Afar Triangle, where the Earth’s crust is literally splitting apart. You’ve got neon-yellow sulfur springs hissing, acidic pools bubbling, and these endless salt flats that blind you in the sun.

It’s wild, almost alien, with colors popping like a fever dream. The Afar people mine salt here, trekking it out with camels like they’ve done forever. Then there’s Erta Ale, the ‘smoking mountain’—a volcano with a lava lake that’s been boiling since at least 1906.

Picture glowing orange lava churning in a crater, lighting up the night like something out of a sci-fi movie. It’s brutal to reach, but standing there, feeling the heat and the rumble, you’re staring into Earth’s raw, beating heart. Unreal
