Ethio Wildlife Tours, as always, is committed to creating unforgettable experiences for our guests. This morning, we enjoyed an incredible cultural encounter with the Hamer Tribe, the second-largest community in the Omo Valley. Known for their vibrant traditions and pastoral lifestyle, the Hamer people rely heavily on their livestock—goats, sheep, and cattle—as the heart of their daily life.

During our visit, we had the privilege of walking through their village and observing authentic moments of everyday life. One highlight was meeting a local family and witnessing the traditional milking process, a practice that reflects their deep connection to their animals and their land.

It was a truly enriching experience, and we’re delighted to share these meaningful cultural moments with our travelers.

The Gelada monkey, historically called the Gelada baboon is one of Ethiopia’s most iconic wildlife species and is found nowhere else in the world. Living only in the dramatic cliffs and grasslands of the Ethiopian Highlands. these primates are known locally as the “bleeding-chest baboons” because of the vivid red patch on their chest.

The dominant males, with their magnificent golden manes and proud posture, are widely referred to as “lion monkeys.” Their impressive upper and lower canine teeth, flowing fur & majestic presence make them one of the most unforgettable sights in the mountains. Watching Geladas graze, groom, and socialize in their natural habitat is one of the top wildlife experiences Ethiopia offers.

Ethio Wildlife Tours
Our day trip to Debre Libanos Monastery was amazing.

We explored this historic 13th-century monastery, one of Ethiopia’s most important spiritual sites, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.
Along the way we spotted the majestic Gelada baboons (monkeys), diverse plant species, colorful birds & enjoyed the spectacular gorge views.

The highlight was the peaceful Jemma River waterfall, with its fresh running water adding to the serenity of the place. We also learned a lot about the holy and deeply spiritual atmosphere of Debre Libanos, a site of prayer, history & peace.
the area quite green after the Ethiopian rainy season.
