There is always the best retreat spot in and around Addis Ababa. This time we made our second tour of the breathtaking landscape of Jemma River Valley, Debrelibanos monastery and nearby scenery.

Epiphany, the baptism of Jesus Christ on Jordan River, is locally called 'Timkat' and annually celebrated across Ethiopia. This is one of the few occasions where the sacred Ark of the Covanent is at closer sight to the public, as day long procession takes places the way it used to be done thousands of years ago. Faithful will be showered with holy water, believing they are cleansed from their sins.

On non-reliogious point, Timkat sets the stage for new acquaintance as youths will hook up with their future partners. The traditional way of showing interest in a person is throwing a lemon 🍋 and if the boy/girl picks it up and smell it, your request is accepted. If not, you have to try with other.

This and other practices take place during the two days Timkat ceremony.
