We still have more than 4 weeks fasting time in Ethiopia before the breaking of the fast for Fasika, the Ethiopian Easter. Did you know that out of 365 days the Ethiopians Orthodox Christians have 180 mandatory fasting days, and up to 252 days for clergy and the particularly observant, making the fasting regime worldwide the most strikt of any church? And this also makes Ethiopia one of the top destinations for vegetarian and vegan travel. Birhan Asmamaw, himself fasting about 250 days a year, just wrote a blog article about the special fasting and vegan food that you find in Ethiopia, here it is.

When it comes to traveling as a vegetarian or vegan, many destinations pose a challenge - but Ethiopia stands out as an exception. With its rich culinary traditions, deeply rooted in culture and religion, Ethiopia is one of the most naturally vegan-friendly countries in the world.

We're really excited about our next trip to the Gurage Highlands 25-29 September. The absolute best time to visit is during the Meskel celebrations end of the month. We love the mountain biking and the hiking, and with the rivers swollen from the rain it's a unique chance to do some rafting. We'll enjoy the end the day with kitfo & kodjo, some araki and dancing around a bonfire. Last week we returned from a 4 days Ride the Rift bike trip with camping and lots of exploring in remote and rarely visited areas in Hadiya, Kembata, Halaba and Wolayta in the new Central Ethiopian Region. What an adventure! We can confidently say that the areas are safe for travelling, and soon we'll have tour packages ready to be booked.

Happy to be a member of "ASA - Anerkannte Spezialisten für Afrika Reisen". We already attended our first event with them, a workshop organized to connect local DMCs to tour operators and travel agencies from the German speaking countries. We're glad about this good start of the collaboration and can't wait to engage further. 😀
