Harar City of Saints ( madinatl al Awliya)

Awaaches(shrines)

The term Awaaches shrines is a place where graves of the Awliyaa (big Islamic scholars) are located in Harar.
A person is awarded with the awliyaa titles when he, in his life time, considered pious did miracles or good deeds for the shake of society. These Awaaches are considered as the protectors of the city. Now a days 438 Awaaches are identified. it is based on this fact that the city is endowed with a title(madinatel al Awliyaa) which means the city of saints. it is worthwhile to mention some of them starting with Aw Abadir the champion of these Awaach.
