Guests from Romania just got back from a week on the lake in Southern Finland. Pike almost a metre. Zander 70-80 cm. The photos say the rest.

They came prepared, fished seriously, and it showed. Well done!

Late May is one of the best windows of the year in Finland: post-spawn pike are feeding hard and zander are active across the whole water column.

The next window like this comes at the end of August and through September, when the water cools again and predators switch back on after the summer slowdown.

Island Finland at its best - clean water, quiet bays, golden autumn light. The kind of place where you stop checking your phone. Pike fishing here is excellent through September, October, and even November.

Available week: October 3-10, 2026 or October 10-17, 2026

Cottage for 4-6 people (2 bedrooms + loft)

That was May in Finland. Here's what actually happened on the water.
- Early May - some days boats landed 20 pike each.
- Some groups this spring caught at least one pike over 1 metre.
- Guests from Switzerland and Romania landed zander over 70 cm.

Is autumn pike in Finland is bigger than spring pike and where to find them?

Spring gets all the attention.
Post-spawn, aggressive feeding, high cast counts - yes, all true. We love May too.

But if you want the largest pike of the season, autumn is when it happens.

Here's why, according to Finnish fishing research and our own seasons on this water:
September - water drops below 15°C. Pike stop selectively chasing bleak and shift to bigger prey. Bream start moving toward their wintering grounds, passing straight through pike territory. This transition is when the trophy window opens. Slow jerkbaits and large shads start doing real damage.

October - Finnish angler Petri Timonen analysed catch data from 1940 pike over 6 kg. His conclusion: in coastal and archipelago waters, October is statistically the peak month for trophy-sized fish. The biggest pike of the season are active, feeding hard before winter.

November - cold, quiet, and often underestimated. Fewer anglers on the water. Pike still feed. Sometimes produces the most unexpected results of the year.

We fish our location across all three months. October is consistently when the largest fish come to the net.

Spring gives you numbers. Autumn gives you size. Both have their place - but they're not the same trip.

In a few days we’ll leave this waters until autumn. The pike here will move to their summer holding areas, and we’ll switch to other locations. This spot will reopen for us in mid-September, when the water cools down and the autumn feeding frenzy begins.

The first half of May showed that this water is producing: 26 pike in one day. Four fish over one meter long.

We are already accepting autumn bookings. October is traditionally our strongest month for trophy fish.

If you want to secure a spot, it’s better to message now rather than in August.

Today, a group of 2 anglers landed 26 pike in one day. The biggest measured 110 cm. All fish were safely released.
