38 days ago I didn't know what offside was. Tonight is the World Cup final. This is what happened in between. 🌍⚽ I picked Morocco on Day 5. They drew Brazil, beat Scotland, beat Haiti 4-2, beat Netherlands on penalties at 5am in Finland, beat Canada to reach the quarterfinals. Then France beat them 2-0. And I sat in Finland at midnight and felt it in a way I didn't expect. But the bigger story — Africa brought 8 teams to the knockouts for the first time in World Cup history. Cape Verde scored twice against Messi. Senegal were 2-0 up with 4 minutes left. DR Congo led England. Egypt made the Round of 16. This continent came to the biggest stage in the world and refused to be invisible. Football is not about football. It is about people. About countries. About who gets to stand on the biggest stage and say — we are here. Day 1: knew nothing. Day 38: football fan. Morocco made me one. 🦁❤️
