Safety rules for entering a frozen lake ❄️

Ice safety rule number one: Never go to the ice without a local guide who knows the ice and weather conditions and has safety gear with him/her.

Ice safety rule number two: Always wear ice pecks and ask your guide to show you how to use them! Practise this skill together with your guide.

Ice safety rule number three: Have a set of dry clothes packed waterproof in your backbag!

How to grill a sausage over an open fire? 🔥

In Finland, some of the best meals are the simplest ones. And of course enjoyed outdoors, by the fire.

Grilling a sausage over an open fire is a classic Finnish outdoor tradition. First, make a few small cuts in the sausage with a knife. This helps it cook more evenly.

Instead of cutting roasting sticks from living trees, we use telescopic roasting sticks for sustainability reasons. Place the sausage firmly onto the spikes at the end of the stick, then hold it close to the heat. But not directly in the flames!

Turn it slowly and give it time. The best sausage is warm on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside, and enjoyed with fresh air, good company and perhaps a little mustard or ketchup.

Simple, tasty and very Finnish.

Instead of just tasting Finnish delicacies, on our tours and school camps everyone rolls up their sleeves to make them themselves. 😋

In this activity, we teach step by step how to bake traditional Finnish cinnamon rolls, known as korvapuusti. From preparing the dough and adding the cinnamon filling to shaping the rolls and enjoying them warm from the oven, everyone gets hands-on.

It’s a delicious way to learn about Finnish food culture, everyday traditions and the joy of baking together.

How to make a chocolate-filled banana over an open fire? 🍌

Sometimes the best outdoor desserts are the simplest ones.

In this video, we show you step by step how to prepare a warm chocolate-filled banana by the fire. All you need is a banana, a few pieces of chocolate and a little bit of patience.

Slice the banana open, add the chocolate inside, wrap it in foil and place it carefully near the fire until the banana is soft and the chocolate has melted.

Simple, sweet and wonderfully cozy, which makes it a perfect little treat after a day outdoors. 🌿
