Some Sundays don’t go as planned.
Against all odds, the ice was stronger than the icebreaker.
During the night of Sunday the 11th, extreme temperatures below −30°C caused a power outage in the area. This stopped the sea pool system at the port — a system crucial for keeping the water open around the dock. Without it, the water froze solid, quite literally gluing the ship to the dock.
Despite every attempt to break free, the ice had other plans. For the first time in our history, the icebreaker had to be released manually — with a chainsaw and a lot of patience.
And it worked!
The day didn’t unfold as expected — but the Arctic still had its own way of ending it.
Thank you to our guests and our crew for making it happen❤️
