In recent days, claims and concerns regarding Nordic Unique Travels have been raised in the media and by PAM. We take these concerns seriously and understand that public and employee trust, as well as transparency, are especially important in a situation like this.
Nordic Unique Travels has operated in Rovaniemi since 2018. From the start, we have built an international team and aimed to provide a safe, professional, and supportive environment for employees, interns, guides, and customers. Like many growing companies, we encountered challenges in our early years, including work practices, training, working-hour records, and contract management. When issues have arisen, we have reviewed, corrected, and, when necessary, made payments or taken corrective action.
Training and orientation structures differ by department. Some roles, such as tour guides, require more extensive preparation to ensure the safety of employees and customers. We acknowledge that, in the past, a few cases should have been managed more clearly and transparently. These have been reviewed and corrected. Our goal is to eliminate any future ambiguity between training, orientation, and actual work.
Regarding interns, our position is clear: interns are not replacements for permanent employees. Our internship program is designed to provide practical learning, professional growth, and real exposure to the working environment. Interns participate in real, controlled, and non-dangerous projects, always under the supervision of experienced professionals. Our cooperation with universities and educational institutions, as well as the positive experiences of many interns, shows that this program has been valuable for students and young professionals. We consider this one of the strengths of our company and part of our responsibility in supporting the next generation of talent.
When it comes to occupational safety, especially in activities such as snowmobile safaris, we want to emphasize that safety is not an administrative or promotional matter for us; it is a deeply human responsibility. The tragic accident that happened in the past was a profound loss for all of us. We remember it with respect and sorrow. Since then, we have made our safety procedures, risk assessments, training, and selection of people for high-risk activities stricter, and we continue to improve them.
Regarding foreign employees and residence permits, our position is also clear: no one should feel pressure or insecurity because of their nationality, language, immigration status, or need for employment. We see our role as supporting international employees, not taking advantage of their situation. Work permit matters are handled by our human resources team, and we are working to establish safer, clearer communication channels for employees.
We affirm that employees have the right to contact a union, public authority, legal advisor, or any relevant legal body. No employee should feel threatened or fear retaliation for raising concerns, seeking guidance, or reporting a problem. If anyone has documents or information regarding misconduct, we are prepared to review them through official channels.
We do not consider some of the claims made to be accurate or complete, and we disagree with some of the narratives presented. At the same time, we do not want to respond to this situation only with denial or emotion. The right path for us is clarification, documented review, procedural improvements, and cooperation with the relevant parties.
We are proud to be part of Rovaniemi, proud of our international team, and proud of the role we play in introducing Lapland and Finnish culture to the world. At the same time, we understand that trust is not built by words alone, but through actions, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Our goal is for Nordic Unique Travels to be a place where employees, interns, and customers feel safe, respected, and valued. We are committed to this path of improvement and will continue it responsibly.
