Last week, we saw an incredible aurora! For a few days, it was so bright and so red. ✨ Red auroras are pretty rare and usually happen during strong geomagnetic storms. It was surreal seeing the sky light up like that for several nights!

1. Check the forecast – Use aurora forecast websites or apps to track solar activity and cloud cover. The higher the KP index, the better your chances!
2. Find dark skies – Avoid city and road lights. On our tour, you’re guaranteed a light-free experience, as our cozy old lappish cottage is located 30 minutes drive from Rovaniemi.

In Rovaniemi you can observe not only the northern lights, but also nacreous clouds (also called polar stratospheric clouds) 🌤️ These clouds form in the stratosphere at very high altitudes, typically in polar regions during the winter. Their striking, iridescent colors are caused by sunlight diffracting through tiny ice crystals in the cloud, which scatter the light. They are rare and often associated with extremely cold conditions 🌬️
