A weekend full of good discussions about the role of a tour skating leader in risk management, and sometimes also as a risk creator. About permissible and not permissible risks, psychological safety and many other important issues. In addition, the program included practical exercises amongst the ice in the refreshing seawater, with and without a dry suit. A fun and rewarding weekend leading the safety course of Finnish Tour Skating Association's leadership training. A warm thank you to all participants - and thanks to Porvoon poukama for the excellent service!

Talvimelontakurssi Saimaalla | Puumala 27.–29.3.2026

Melonta ei ole vain kesälaji. Kevättalven Saimaalla pääset kokemaan talvimelonnan taian – ja ennen kaikkea opit tekemään sen fiksusti ja turvallisesti.

Saimaa Canoeing + Aavameri järjestävät yhdessä perinteikkään, erittäin hyvää palautetta saaneen talvimelontakurssin, jossa kouluttajina toimivat SC:n Sanna Korhonen sekä Aavameren Benjamin Donner.

Mitä viikonloppu sisältää?
✅ Pe klo 18: talvimelonnan turvallisuusluento (olosuhteet, riskit, varustautuminen)
✅ La–su: käytännön harjoituksia vesillä (talviolosuhteet, ryhmäturvallisuus, varustautuminen, pelastautuminen), jäämelontaretki
✅ Halukkaille kurssin lopussa myös “hyisiä” harjoituksia hallitusti – asioita, joihin omilla retkillä ei koskaan pitäisi joutua.

Kenelle?
– Sinulle, jolla on jo jonkin verran melontakokemusta ja perusasiat hallussa (mm. jaksat meloa n. 5 km retkiä ja ohjata kajakkia).

Kurssiin yhteydessä saatavilla talvikalusto ja -varusteet: kajakki, mela, liivit, kuivapuku, tossut, kuivapussit + kaluston kuljetukset.
Paikkoja vain maks. 10 → ilmoittaudu viimeistään 1.3.2026, nopeimmat syövät hitaat!

The Archipelago Sea is turning crisp and quiet right now, but the sea is far from sleeping. Some days are soaked in rain, snow and wind. Others open up with sun, stillness, and golden light – like someone pressed pause on the world just for us.

And while we wait for the sea ice to start its slow conquering, we love to remember the warmth:

This summer, Jevgenija ( IG ) joined a three-day expedition with our guide Iita and another adventurer. She made a half-hour love letter to our archipelago on YouTube – full of laughter, honest reactions, of course some misconceptions about Finland 😉 – and a genuine joy for wild nature and good company. Irish paddlers Joanne, Gael and Kate are now on day four of their five-day self-guided sea kayaking expedition in the Archipelago Sea with Aavameri. 🌊✨

The weather has given them a little bit of everything, but judging from their kind words and the wonderful photos they shared with us, they’ve truly had an unforgettable time. Their journey has included both shorter and longer paddling days, encounters with local Vikings, Örö, the Russian- and Finnish-era coastal fortress island — and, of course, plenty of sauna evenings to end their adventures the right way. 🔥🚣‍♀️

Sitting on a smooth, sun-warmed granite cliff with a full stomach after a great meal, watching the sun sink behind distant archipelago islands after a full day of kayaking, it is hard to imagine life getting any better. Today marked the close of another three-day Hidden Gems of the Archipelago National Park guided expedition — and what a journey it was.
