Mustalampi is not quite a natural lake, at least not in the form we see today.

Long ago, a dam raised the water level in what had been a marshy depression in the forest.

As the water rose, pieces of peat and soil broke loose. And instead of sinking, they started to float.

Today, these floating turf rafts drift slowly across the dark water - like small islands on the move.

A lake shaped by human hands, finished by nature.
