Marine Notice 04/2025 – Registration & Qualifications of Seafarers

The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) reminds all stakeholders of key requirements for seafarers on commercial vessels over 15m:

✅ Seamen’s Employment Record Book is now mandatory for all Fiji seafarers, including those on fishing vessels.

❌ Foreign-issued certificates will not be recognized unless the issuing registry has an agreement with MSAF.

📜 Proper certification and qualifications are required for all onboard roles—no exceptions.

👁️‍🗨️ Watchkeeping arrangements will be inspected to ensure compliance with rest hour regulations and reduce fatigue-related risks.

These measures align with maritime safety laws and aim to uphold high safety and competency standards across Fiji’s waters.
