This super new gîte is situated in the heart of Arcy-sur-Cure, in charming Burgundian village, only a minute walk from the river and a couple of minutes to the ‘corner shop’ or in reality ‘bridge shop’ with ‘dépot pain’. Arcu sur Cure is on the GR13, the on the Compostelle route and the Roman Route d'Agrippa (wine run to London ... replaced by the RN6 and then the A6).
The gîte sleeps 8 : 1 double room, 2 rooms with 2 single beds, and a sofabed (clic-clac) in the sitting room. The kitchen is fully fitted. 2 WC and one shower. A private courtyard and 2 outhouses; with a washing machine. Plenty of space to store bicycles, fishing rods or even a horse!
Local activities include: walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, climbing (Les Saussois), caving, prehistoric grottes (Arcy sur Cure) ...
Historical and gastronomic tours of local towns:
Vezelay: a UNESCO world heritage site with the amazing Basilica (15 to 20 minutes by car)
Chablis: Beautiful village and beautiful wine (and I’ve a good handful of contacts; no surprises there! ) A great market on Sundays.
Vermenton: Local shops, supermarket, chemist, butchers, several bakers, cafés, poodle parlor, hairdresser’s, beach and campsite, doctors, nurses, midwife (... the centre of the world for us here!)
Auxerre: monastic riverside town where the St Germain was and is buried, beautiful wattle and daub buildings and shops of all sorts. Retail therapy guaranteed. Market on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Other beautiful places to visit: Avallon and Noyers, les Saussois (rock climbing).
