On our two-night liveaboard, we got to explore some of the area's most unique snorkeling spots...and it sure did not disappoint! We snorkeled over thriving coral reefs and had unforgettable encounters with manta rays, sea turtles, a spotted eagle ray, blacktip reef sharks, and countless colorful tropical fish. We also got to visit the area's most beautiful beaches and sandbars, including the famous Pink Beach on Padar Island.

From Vietnam, we flew to the coastal town of Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, where we spent a few days soaking in the beautiful scenery. Freshly caught fish lined the streets and appeared on nearly every menu, making it the perfect place to enjoy delicious seafood. We watched spectacular sunsets from the town's trendy waterfront restaurants and stayed at the gorgeous Ta'aktana resort, perched above the beautiful coastline with panoramic views of nearby islands. The hotel offered a wide range of water activities, including underwater scooters, which were a blast!
Next, we hopped on a 3-day liveaboard boat to explore the nearby islands, including Komodo National Park, home to the endangered Komodo dragon—the world's largest living lizard. We also spotted many Rusa deer, the dragons' primary prey. One of the most memorable days began with a 4 a.m. wake-up call to hike the breathtaking Padar Island at sunrise and ended with a spectacular sunset over the scattered islands—a day that perfectly captured the magic of the Komodo Islands.

We wrapped up our Vietnam trip in Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its charming riverside setting, preserved 15th–19th century architecture, and lantern-lined streets. We took the famous coconut boat ride, relaxed by the pool and visited An Bang Beach. We joined the tradition of releasing a lantern into the river with a wish and saw how high the floodwaters reached last fall. We even managed to make some new friends—some of whom happen to live just 30 minutes from home, halfway across the world! Although it was crowded, we loved Hoi An's quaint atmosphere and unique charm. ♥️🏮🇻🇳

We spent a few nights in Da Nang and loved the views from our hotel, Caro Premium Da Nang, overlooking the Han River and the iconic Dragon Bridge. On weekend evenings, crowds gather to watch the bridge's fire-breathing show, while the city's vibrant skyline was just as impressive from our balcony day or night.

During our stay, we explored several temples, wandered through a Greek-inspired marina, and visited the Marble Mountains, where caves are filled with sculptures and artwork inspired by local legends and spiritual symbolism.

We also rode the cable car up to Ba Na Hills, a massive mountaintop resort famous for the Golden Bridge, which appears to be supported by two giant stone hands. We got lost more than once exploring its maze of attractions, but discovered an alpine coaster, a lively beer festival, and an immersive sensory art exhibit where you wade through water as you move between themed rooms.

Our next Vietnamese adventure took us to Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay, famous for their emerald-green waters and thousands of limestone islands topped with lush rainforest. We were lucky to avoid a typhoon and enjoyed pretty nice weather during our 3-day, 2-night cruise aboard the Capella ship. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and we loved all the amenities on board. The food was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and trying our hand at squid fishing in the evening. The two-story waterslide was a definite highlight for Kai...and a special thanks to the cruise manager, Gin, for making it so much fun! One of our excursions took us to Cat Ba Island, where we biked through a local village and got a "fish massage" before relaxing at a beautiful beach nestled among the limestone karsts. Kai also had a great time learning how to make traditional Vietnamese spring rolls during the onboard cooking demonstration. It was an unforgettable way to experience one of Vietnam's most beautiful landscapes, and we are grateful the weather was in our favor! 🚢💚🇻🇳

We took the overnight bus to Ninh Binh and stayed in a rustic lakeside bungalow. Kai's favorite part was cuddling with the resident kitties! We spent our days cycling through the surrounding villages and exploring the ancient town of Hoa Lu, which comes alive at night. We took the scenic Trang An boat ride, gliding along the river through a breathtaking landscape of limestone karsts and a series of caves, including one stretching nearly a kilometer long. We also climbed the 500 steps to the viewpoint above Mua Cave, where we were rewarded with gorgeous views of the winding river and the surrounding lotus fields.

Some random photos from the rest of our time in Sapa, which is full of Instagram-worthy cafés and scenic viewpoints. We also have to mention our amazing hotel, Hotel de la Coupole MGallery, which beautifully blends 1920s French style with Vietnamese indigenous craftsmanship. The hotel feels like a museum, with unique details around every corner—including vintage rotary telephones throughout. Its central location made it easy to explore Sapa town any time of day, and the views from the hotel were incredible. We especially loved relaxing on our balcony and watching the fog roll in. But the best feature of all had to be the indoor pool!

Making the most of the rain...sky biking, crossing the glass bridge (which wasn't nearly as scary when the fog hid the 1,000-foot drop below), visiting Silver Waterfall, and hiking up Ham Rong Mountain for a glimpse of Sapa Town through the mist.

We were lucky to experience a dry day so we ventured through the rice fields down into the Cat Cat Village, a 19th century village established by the Black H'mong ethnic clan. There you can experience locals creating woven fabrics and textiles, see their traditional clothing and the beautiful waterfalls that surround the village. Our favorite part was sliding down the rainbow slide!

We arrived in the mountain town of Sapa to cool weather, which was a nice break from the heat and humidity. We decided to take the cable car up to Mount Fansipan, and at over 10,000 feet above sea level, we were literally above the clouds! It's the highest peak in Vietnam and all of Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia). The frequent rain keeps the landscape incredibly green, and we even spotted waterfalls from the cable car along the way. With rain and temperatures in the 50s, we were definitely a little chilly, but the incredible views made it completely worth it. So far, we're loving Sapa!
