Easter Monday in the hilltop village of Le Bar-sur-Loup 🍊

Thanks to the microclimate, orange trees grow here in abundance, and in spring their blossoms perfume the entire village. This delicate scent has long been prized by the perfume makers of nearby Grasse.

Today the village celebrates La Fête des Orangers — a beautiful Provençal tradition filled with citrus, fragrance, and the arrival of spring.

If you’re here in February, it’s well worth a drive to see the mimosa in bloom on the hills around Tanneron and Mandelieu.

Those bright yellow clouds aren’t just for show – mimosa is grown here for the perfume industry in Grasse. Originally from Australia, it’s taken to the Riviera climate so happily that it’s spread well beyond the plantations and now covers whole hillsides.

From the ridge at Tanneron you get sweeping views across to Grasse and the mountains behind. Turn the other way and you’re looking out towards the sea – the Îles de Lérins, Cannes, and even a bird’s-eye view of the airfield below.

February is a lovely time to be out walking, and the area is covered with easy trails.
