Le Napoleon Express

Journée très agréable sur le Napoleon Express. Nous avons pris le train à la petite gare de Lambel-Camors, cachée dans la forêt de Camors, pour rejoindre Pontivy. La ligne est gérée par les passionnés du CFCB et suit plus au moins le Blavet qu'on aperçoit et qu'on croise plusieurs fois. Presque 3 heures de halte à Pontivy; le temps de nous restaurer avec des bonnes pizzas au restaurant Le Carpaccio, derrière la gare, une promenade tranquille sur les rives du Blavet, et une visite guidée 'express' de Napoleonville, organisée par l'Office de Tourisme. La visite ne durait que trente minutes mais était très intéressante, très riche en information et très bien organisée ... se terminant à la gare de Pontivy pour prendre le train de retour.

Very pleasant day out on the Napoleon Express. We took the train at the little station of Lambel-Camors, tucked away in Camors Forest, and rode up to Pontivy. The line is managed by the passionate volunteers of the CFCB and follows, more or less the River Ballet, which you can see and cross over several times. We had a stopover of about 3 hours in Pontivy which gave us time to have a good pizza at Le Carpaccio restaurant just behind the station, a leisurely walk along the banks of the Blavet, and a quick guided tour of Napoleonville, organised by the Tourist Office. The visit only lasted thirty minutes but was very interesting, rich in information and very well organised ... ending at the station in Pontivy ready for the train back!

Défi 21 Jours - Jour 5

Il a fait chaud, très chaud mais cela ne m'a pas empêché de travailler. J'ai pu finir les plantations dans un grand parterre existant et ajouter plusieurs brouettées de gravillons. Petit à petit. Mais il faut dire que je me sens tellement chanceuse de vivre dans un pays où l'eau fraîche coule du robinet à la demande. Dans des pays bien plus chauds que le nôtre, il faut marcher parfois des kilomètres pour chercher de l'eau dans un puits. Un grand merci également à Janette Claxton ma prof de yoga (facebook: Harmonie) pour le cours ce soir qui m'a bien détendue.

21 Day Challenge - Day 5

It was hot, very hot today but that didn't stop me from working. I was able to finish the planting in a big, existing bed and also add a few wheelbarrow loads of gravel to the paths. Little by little. But I must say how fortunate I feel to live in a country with fresh tap water on demand. In some countries much hotter than ours, it's necessary to walk several miles to fetch water at a well. A big thank you also to Janette Claxton, my yoga teacher, (facebook - Harmonie) for the class this evening which has really relaxed me.

21 Day Challenge - Day 4

Weeding , watering and welcoming were on the agenda today. It's been hot and although it's nice to have some heat at last, my little plants in 9cm pots need a lot of watering. I still have over 1000 to plant. In French they have a saying: 'un binage vaut deux arrosages' 'One hoeing session is worth two watering sessions'. Hence, the w**ding. And we were very happy to welcome back our client to the gîte and also happy that he could see progress since he was here at the beginning of the month.

Défi 21 jours - Jour 4

WWW (mais ça ne marche pas en français!) C'est plutôt DAA (Désherber - Weeding, Arroser - Watering, Accueillir - Welcoming)
Il a fait chaud aujourd'hui. Ça fait du bien mais mes plantes en godet 9cm ont besoin d'eau. Il me reste au moins 1000 à planter! En tenant compte du dicton 'un binage vaut deux arrosages' j'ai fait des séances de désherbage aussi. Et nous étions très heureux d'accueillir à nouveau notre client et heureux aussi qu'il a vu des progrès dans le jardin depuis son dernier séjour début mai.

La terrasse du gite a été désherbée et tout le mobilier du jardin nettoyé au Karcher. Ça fait un peu plus propre!
Mais ça en fait des déchets 😃

The terrace in front of the gîte has been w**ded and all the garden furniture pressure washed. Looks better.
But it does generate a lot of garden waste. 😃

Défi 21 jours - Jour 2

Vendredi en fin d'après-midi, j'ai eu un mail annonçant l'arrivée lundi 31 mai d'un client pour 18 nuits dans le gîte! Nous sommes toujours ravis d'avoir des clients (après tout c'est notre métier, ou un de nos métiers, et c'est un métier passionnant). Il va falloir que je m'adapte pour ne pas déranger notre client mais le défi continue. Le monsieur travaille temporairement dans le coin et a déjà passé plusieurs semaines dans le gîte. J'ai décidé, donc, de me concentrer aujourd'hui sur le parterre existant juste devant le gîte. Les planches de bois délimitant le parterre étaient pourries, donc, j'ai décidé de les remplacer avec les bordures Everedge° que j'utilise pour les nouveaux parterres. Je suis contente du résultat. Après avoir bien désherbé, j'ai choisi 25 plantes pour étoffer les plantes déjà en place ... les monardes, asters, aconits, gauras ... ça devrait être joli bientôt.

21 Day Challenge - Day 2

At the end of the afternoon on Friday, I received an email informing me of the arrival on Monday 31 May of a client for 18 nights in the gîte! We are always delighted to have clients (it is our job, or one of our jobs after all, and a very satisfying job at that). I will have to adapt so as not to disturb our customer but the challenge continues. I decided to concentrate my efforts today on the existing bed just in front of the gîte. The wood which contained the border was rotten so I decided to replace it with the Everedge° borders which I'm using for the new beds. I'm quite pleased with the result. After giving the bed a good w**d, I planted up 25 perennials to fill in between the existing plants ... monarda, asters, monkshood, gaura ... it should look good soon
