Splendid mural in the local village of Châtignac showing traditional Charentais costume, then the real thing at Berneuil brocante! Not sure how comfortable the clogs are but they were singing and dancing away quite happily during the procession!

Thinking of a last minute summer break? Due to a late cancellation we have an August week available in La Petite Maison, our 3 bedroom gîte. It sleeps six but is sometimes used just for two, it’s terrace overlooks the pool, meadow and woodland beyond. A tranquil spot for stargazing at night and listening to the birds and crickets in the day. See website or send a message for further details.

Up with the sunrise this morning to get the watering and a few outside chores done early. It’s going to be another sunny weekend, with temperatures rising again over the next few days. 😎

National French Bread day today! Celebrated mainly in the US to recognise and honour the craftsmanship of French bread 🥖 So many types to choose from…pictures show the ‘pain épi fantaisie’ with a ‘baguette rustique’, ‘pain sportif’ with nuts and dried fruit, and a seasonal ‘pain’ with honey and figs. Delicious…which one would you choose? The French festival of bread is in May, with events held across France 🇫🇷

La Cachette is our 2 bedroom gîte which sleeps up to 4 people. Its name means the hideaway, as it’s tucked away and is very private. With views from the terrace across the meadow to the woodland, you may be lucky enough to spot deer 🦌 early in the morning. You’ll likely hear the resident black woodpecker, and see buzzards and kites flying overhead. Dining alfresco with nature based entertainment is a whole different experience!

Some cheerful daffodils to brighten your Monday morning 🌼. Maintenance day today, repairing and repainting shutters. Too easy to be distracted by all the spring flowers bursting into life, but the job list needs attending to!

Making the most of sunny days and willing helpers! Thank you for your hard work this week. Plenty of logs split and stacked which will season well outside, especially in the warmer spring and summer breeze.

After the recent fog, the sun appeared today, and it looks promising for the week ahead☀️. Very cold but the bluest of blue skies. Teo was sunbathing in his new favourite spot!
