Whether you fancy a leisurely ride along the cycle path or taking on the more challenging climbs to reach over 1500m, there is something for everyone.

Another impressive historical building worth a visit is the Forteresse de Salses.

Here's a brief summary up of this signifant landmark:

A royal fortress to protect the border
Monitoring the Kingdom of France was the main concern of the Catholic Kings, Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella of Castile. They then decided to build a fortress and protect the strategic border crossing between the kingdoms of France and Spain. The boundary of the two kingdoms was located at the Corbières, the border between the current departments of Aude (11) and Pyrénées-Orientales (66).

This fortress must have a dual function: that of a surveillance post and a stopping place against the enemy coming from the north!

For a pleasurable day trip to the nearest city, Perpignan is very much worth the 30 minute drive (or 45 minute by bus).

Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants can be found within this beautiful relaxed city.

Perpignan is a southern French city near the Mediterranean coast and the border with Spain. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca during the 13th century, and a significant Catalan influence is evident in its medieval core.
