Les Mirabelles is a small family-run business based in South West France offering holiday rentals, pop-up feast events and private catering.

We are Sam and Heather Lusardi, we live in the beautiful commune of Caylus in the Tarn et Garonne with our two dogs, Olive and Elwood.

We've been inspected and selected!

We're so delighted to join the Sawday's family. It's how we used to find special places to stay when we came on holiday, and it's surreal to be the owners of one of those very same special places today.

For those of you who don't know Sawday's we can't recommended it highly enough as a website which curates high quality, interesting, unusual places to stay across Europe and the UK. It started as a series of guidebooks written by the eponymous Alistair Sawday, and now it's a B-Corp based in our home town of Bristol, with an ethos and set of values that we wholeheartedly share.

We can't wait to welcome our first Sawday's guests.

For the first time this year the garden was looking a little sparse and I decided to top up this week's guests' vases with some flowers from the market.

I inherited some beautiful roses (including this stunning white one, which flowers prolifically nearly all year round), and have planted some low-water, sustainable Mediterranean beds but I haven't attempted any new, more traditional flower beds.

I'm kind of in love with these zinia's and cosmos, though. Not sure how they'll fare with our super-tricky heavy clay soil, but I might have been tempted to give it a try.

I headed down to the market early this morning before the crowds. The light was so beautiful on the ancient stones of our little town.

I also treated myself to some gorgeous flowers 🌺

A little something we’ve been keeping under wraps…

We’re very excited to have our story featured in French Property News this month.

When we were planning our move out here I used to scour these pages for stories of people who’d done similar things in the hope of unearthing the secret to make it work - or at the very least, learning a few essential tips and tricks - so it’s v surreal to see our own journey as described by the lovely Alison Hughes.

Obviously there are no magic secrets, but hopefully this might provide a smidgen of inspiration to others who are just setting out on their own adventures or thinking of taking the plunge. We’ve never looked back! ❤️❤️❤️

We're so delighted to be able to announce the menu for our Indian Feast Night. This one has provoked much debate chez Les Mirabelles - there's so much we love about the cuisine of this vast and diverse country (or sub-continent, even) it was so hard to choose - but we think we might have nailed this one and we hope you love it.

It's not your average curry night, but it's a real celebration of the vibrant flavours and exotic spices of this incredible place.

Nous sommes très fiers d'annoncer le menu pour notre soirée festin aux saveurs indiennes. Ce menu a provoqué beaucoup de débat chez Les Mirabelles - il y a tellement de choses qu'on adore dans la cuisine de ce pays (ou même ce sous-continent) énorme et diverse, c'était vraiment difficile de choisir - mais, on pense qu'on a réussi, et on espère que vous allez vous régaler.

Ce n'est pas une soirée curry comme les autres. C'est une vraie célébration des saveurs éclatantes et des épices exotiques de ce pays formidable.

Join us on the 25th September for an evening of Indian spice in the south of France.

We will celebrate the flavours and culinary heritage of the Indian sub-continent in a Feast Night to remember.

Tickets are 49€ per person including a welcome drink.

Menu to be announced but will include some classic dishes alongside some less familiar personal favourites. This is one that I'm really excited about!

NB - We can cater for vegetarians, pescetarians, and dairy free guests but are not able to accommodate other dietary requirements.

I love putting on a good spread.

We had friends from the UK for lunch today, passing through on their holiday, and it was so lovely to catch up on old times and talk about new adventures.

I put together a veggie spread featuring recipe for roast fennel, tomatoes and chickpeas with a totally addictive preserved lemon dressing; peach, tomato, mozzarella and basil salad; green beans with nigella seeds and pickled shallots; radishes with butter and salt, and locally grown melon.

We’re in full fig glut here so dessert was a pavlova with roasted and fresh figs, a whipped mascarpone and yoghurt cream, tamarind caramel sauce and rose praline.

Welcome gifts

We always leave our guests some little homemade treats for when they arrive, often tired and hungry from the journey.

These are some of my absolute favourites. From a recipe by the amazing they are brown butter banana cookies inspired by banana bread (but so much better imho).

I make them anytime I have a load of bananas going brown, then portion them and freeze ready to bake.

Those who know me won’t be surprised to hear I even have a spreadsheet to calculate the amount of other ingredients needed given how much banana I have 🤓

Come and stay with us.

We have some availability in September and early October. For me it’s one of the best times to be here.

The intense heat of the summer has abated, yet the rivers and lakes - not to mention the pool - are still warm enough to swim in. We still eat three meals a day outside, yet it’s cool enough to allow for walking and exploring.

Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular and the countryside is returning to green after the parched yellow of August.

The hedgerows are full of sloes, hawthorns, and rose hips, and market stalls are heaped with figs, squashes, fragrant quinces, chestnuts and wild mushrooms.
