As the town begins to fill with people in compression socks who combine the physique of Olive Oyl with the muscles of Popeye, the summer crescendo of UTMB week hits Chamonix. Possibly the last year of the colossal juggernaut at this size, since its purchase by Ironman has resulted in some undeniable problems and there may be some reduction in numbers next year. It remains an amazing and emotionally charged moment as these courageous people set off to test their limits. Forecast is looking good …Bon courage à tout le monde!!!! Not only an astonishing cosmic alignment but also Instagram Post no. 1000 - how about that! And a first attempt at multiple captions too. What a time to be alive. All facetious comments aside this was an absolutely astonishing thing to see. E-bike was the way forward to get to the top of Brevent, though the ride down in the dark was a bit of an adventure! 20:20 pm, 97% coverage! Amazing that it’s still too bright to photograph or see without the glasses (many thanks to generous eclipse glass lender!) but if you look at the shape of the lens flare, you can see it upside down.

Attempting to photograph through the glass didn’t work but again you can see the sliver shaped flare.

Midi looked socked in, but what beautiful clouds for us!

As it sank below the horizon it became dim enough to photograph. What a sight 🌚 unforgettable

One does not simply walk into Le Tour! Dramatic clouds and thunder but we (narrowly) avoided a soaking!

In these temperatures, so grateful for the cool mornings - we are up early to walk in the river mist, and back before 8 or 9 when the temperature starts to climb. Really appreciating the deep shade of the pine trees too. We know we are so lucky to be able to cool down ❤️
