A little video from one of our latest Mont Blanc courses 🏔️
After a few weeks without attempting it, conditions finally seemed to be lining up for a great week.
Dropping temperatures, and a storm forecast to bring fresh snow just two days before our attempt, were promising signs of better conditions in the couloir ❄️
After a super-quick ascent of Gran Paradiso with our very fit guests (and some excellent cake at the hut 🍰), our guides checked all the boxes, carefully assessed the conditions, and gave the green light for Mont Blanc. The group set off! 🚀
Unfortunately, on the approach to the couloir, it became clear that the storm had brought far less snow than forecast, leaving a large part of the couloir still dry.
On top of that, a very serious accident had happened the afternoon before, with a climber hit by rockfall.
Taking all this into account, once at the Tête Rousse hut our guides took the time to really look at the mountain and “feel” it. In the end, they made the call to turn around and stop the ascent.
A huge shoutout to our wonderful guests, who never lost their smiles all week and kept spirits high, even in the face of these tough calls. They understood that managing risk sometimes means knowing when the conditions simply aren’t there.
As they say… “a good alpinist is an old alpinist.” 😉
We still had a fantastic week in the mountains together, packed with laughs, some technical climbing, rappelling, e-biking, rock climbing… and plenty more.
