So, after 13 years, 618 gite cleans, 890 chocolate eclairs and one dead bunny rabbit, we have finally sold our beautiful gîtes. We’ve loved (almost) every moment, met some fabulous people, made some great memories and cleaned lots of toilets. We finally say au revoir on 12 July.
We plan on hanging around a French beach for a couple of months before buying a house in Devon.
Thank you to all our lovely guests and the great artisans who helped us make Les Arbres so beautiful. We will miss this place 🥲

Read our latest review from AirBnb:
“Pat and Gill's gite(s) are the perfect holiday home(s). We just spent a week with kids, parents, grandparents, even friends came to visit: everybody had a wonderful time. There are 3 gites in a large garden (English style), sharing a heated pool, badmiton "court", an absolutely professional boules court and much more. Each gite has its own outside terrace with barbecue and table, which gives enough privacy if you want to be spend time just with your family, a large table under a tree in the middle of the garden allows you to share a drink or dinner with other guests. Each gite is charmingly restored. Everything is exceptionally clean and the beds are very comfortable. Pat and Gill are lovely hosts, discrete but available if there are problems. They provide with you with a very helpful guide for the best restaurants and excursions in the area. I left my laptop by accident and Gill sent it back to me within a couple of days. If you want to explore this relatively unknown part of the Perigord/Dordogne and you are a large group, this is the place to go! Thank you, Pat and Gill!”

“How did you end up here?”

Visitors often ask us how we found Les Arbres and how long we’ve been living here.

We had planned to come and live in France for a long time, but didn’t want to be idle. Buying gites seemed to be an ideal option. In our minds we envisaged an old manor house, somewhere near the sea. Whilst on holiday on the Il-de-Re in 2007, we spotted an advert for some gites for sale in the Dordogne. As it was a rainy day we decided to go and take a look.

We knew straight away that we had found our ideal spot. The three properties were already renovated and being managed as gites. The garden was fully fenced and the lovely pool was surrounded by trees, yet situated to catch the warm sun all day. It was ideal for us, since we had an income straight away from the gites, yet we have been able to make lots of gradual improvements, such as better quality bathrooms and kitchens, woodburners, quality linens and better furnishings. We took ownership of Les Arbres in 2008, but stayed in London working for a couple of years to pay for the renovation of the old barn opposite, which has now become our home.

This is our tenth summer welcoming families to Les Arbres. We know that we’ve got the right formula and love to see people relaxing with each other. Over the years we’ve made many friends who return year after year. We love the peace and quiet, the pure air and the relaxed way of life. We still dream of living in an old manor house by the sea one day, but love our way of life here and welcoming families to Les Arbres.
