There are hotels you stay in, and then there are hotels that make you want to cancel your plans and just⊠stay.
Elva Hotel in Voss, Norway, was the latter.
Set against the mountains and water of western Norway, Elva is a small design hotel that feels like someone took everything I love about Scandinavian design and put it in one place. Clean lines, warm woods, Norwegian minimalism and enormous floor-to-ceiling windows that made the landscape feel like part of my room.
And then there were the details: heated bathroom floors (Norway understands me), hot tubs overlooking the river and mountains, and food that was genuinely one of the highlights of the stay.
But my favorite moment might have been when the hotel manager brought out heather honey from his own bees for us to taste. đđŻ Those little, personal touches are the things I remember long after checkout.
Elva has just five unique mini-houses in addition to its main building, all designed around the surrounding landscape, and it earned a MICHELIN Key again for 2026. Itâs the kind of place that manages to feel both architecturally striking and completely at home in nature.
