When the Past Meets the Practical!
We’ve taken a little slice of French history and given it a beautiful new purpose…
We’ve updated some of our bathrooms to now feature antique “coiffeuses”, once used for elegant grooming rituals and now beautifully converted into marble-topped bathroom cabinets.
Stylish, functional and oozing with old-world charm, they’re the perfect addition to our newly refreshed bedrooms.

We’ve been quietly working behind the scenes… and we’re so excited to finally share the newly refreshed salon at Château de la Vigne!
Now beautifully reimagined with elegant new furniture and a more spacious layout, this room can welcome our entire group together, for cosy chats, family gatherings, or simply sinking into a deep sofa with a glass in hand. 🍷
It’s warm, it’s inviting and it’s still every bit as château-chic as before, just with a little more room to breathe, connect and unwind!

If you’re holidaying with a group of friends, you may well prefer more larger beds than singles?
We have you covered!
This year we have changed a number of our twin beds to ones that can be joined together to make one large super king bed.
These beds on the first floor of the chateau are flexible in this way.
So, if you’re holidaying without the kids and you need doubles, the chateau has 5!

A beautiful pop of colour behind a row of poolside loungers.
Roses grow well in our region and we’ve planted them everywhere! Love love love!
We were gifted this single rose plant a number of years ago by Guy’s mum, after a visit with her friends. We planted it in this corner and it had flourished. It’s a wonderful way to remember her.

When we relandscaped our grounds during lockdown, I worked with the wonderful Coco,
We had a plan to create a line of vision that took us from the central courtyard, into the pool and out to the grounds at the other end.
We started with these elegant of cypress trees that flank the gated entrance to the terrace and then changed the pool gates further along, from a solid black gate to a wrought iron decorative gate…a super lucky FB marketplace find!

We achieved our vision!
It was all documented on Season 2!

Since we are running more retreats now here at the chateau, we welcome more single guests, who not only need their own room but also a big bed!
So we’ve just swapped out one of the single beds in our chateau top floor bedroom for a double.
When we’re not running retreats, this room becomes a fabulous family suite.
We’re always evolving as our guests’ needs change.

Love this angle from the pool, taken from the shallow steps looking towards the central courtyard, with the table tennis terrace on the left and the “chicken coop” terrace to the right…named in memory of the chickens we used to keep when the children were little!
Many a guest can be found cooling off on the steps, lost in a haze of the calm and tranquility of the beautiful pool garden.

Our grounds are peppered with antique features that we’ve picked up since we arrived over 20 years ago.
This old wine press was manoeuvred into this position using our digger! It was lowered gently, piece by piece swaying in air, until it finally landed into stillness! Phew!
It sits at the entrance surrounded by treasured terracotta and zinc pots and planters and is a welcoming sight as guests drive in on arrival.
Thank goodness I’m happy with where we initially chose for it to sit, as moving it is probably out of the question!
😅Although, Guy may not agree with this…I have been known to move the “unmovable”!

The ground floor bedroom in our Coach House has had a makeover! We now have the flexibility to offer this as a twin or superking room, depending on our guests’ requirements.
It also has an ensuite walk-in shower room, suitable for disabled access.
We often host big family gathering and as a ground floor room, we find this room popular with their elderly guests.
It has a lovely feel to it and has access onto the central courtyard, which is often the hub of the holiday!
Do you holiday as a large family group? Elderly grandparents all the way down to the tiniest newborns…we have you covered!

Welcome to Chateau de la Vigne; a stunning 19th century self-catering chateau with 3 gîtes in the heart of the Loire Valley, France; ideally located for the magnificent historic chateaux, the majestic river Loire and many local attractions.
Chateau de la Vigne is owned and run by nutritionist May Simpkin (www.maysimpkin.com), who also runs yoga health retreats during the year at the chateau. This was featured in 2018 as a part of series 2, Escape to the Chateau DIY (episodes 18, 19 & 20!)
