🚗Road trip to the mountains! 🗻
If you’ve always flown to the Alps for your ski holiday, then maybe now’s the time to reconsider a road trip?
We’ve made this journey countless of times and can reassure you that if as long as you’re not driving solo, it’s not only cost effective, it’s also more eco-friendly and – with some good tunes, snacks and the spirit of adventure - it’s also way more fun than sitting around in an airport! (And there are no luggage limits 😉)
Here are 5 things to make your Alpine Road Trip run smoothly:
1) Consider a stopover in one of France’s historic cities: Dijon, Troyes, Reims…
2) Don’t take the route via Paris, unless you specifically want to!
3) Prepare podcasts and playlists and the time flies by
4) Carry snow chains or consider winter tyres (see below 👇)
5) Leave space to stock up on wine on your return journey!
❄What about driving in snow?
Having chatted to a few guests about this recently, it’s understandable that driving in snow makes people nervous.
The good news is that it’s actually pretty rare for your tyres to touch snow. Resorts are incredible well-equipped to clear and grit roads, and the first thing that gets tackled is the main road in and out of resort.
It’s now legally required in France to be equipped with one of these options:
1) Snow tyres (expensive but fantastic)
2) Snow chains (tricky to put on but much cheaper)
3) Snow socks (cheap and easy to put on, but not very durable over longer distances)
